Description

A. D. TYTLER. Spur.
No. 225,955 Patented Mar. 30, 1880.
%2Z72 e519 es; Iva/anion- %di/5e hwy/qr @1554 Z .NITED STATES ALEXANDER D. TYTLER, OF SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS.
SPUR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 225,955, dated March 30, 1880.
Application filed August 19, 1879.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, ALEXANDER D. TYTLER, of San Antonio, Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spurs, of which the following is aspecification.
The object of my invention is to provide a spur which may be readily applied to the heel of a boot or shoe and easily detached therefrom.
The invention consists in acurved bifurcated support for the spur-wheel, having one end slotted to receive the screw by which it is fastened to the boot, and having ridges or serrations for insuring a firm hold on the boot-heel.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the spur, showing the manner of attaching it to the boot-heel. Fig. 2is afront elevation, and Fig. 3 represents the screw-driver or key used in attaching and removing the spur.
The curved piece A, in which is pivoted the spur-wheel B, is enlarged at its lower end and slotted at O to receive the screw D, by which it is attached to the boot-heel. The inner face,
a, of the curved piece A, which comes into contact with the boot heehis roughened, ribbed,
or serrated to insure firmness in the attachment, the projections or ribs forming in the leather of the boot-heel corresponding indentations, which prevent the spur-wheel support from sliding or turning.
By employing a fastening device of this kind straps and buckles are dispensed with and the operation of attaching and detaching the spuris simplified. The spur is also more cheaply manufactured than those of ordinary description, and it is so compact that it may be readily carried in the pocket when not in use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a riding-spur whose wheel-support is slotted and serrated and adapted to be fastened to a bootheel by a common screw, as herein specified.
ALEXANDER D TYTLER.
