IMPROVEMENT IN HATS,BONNETS,AND OTHER HEAD-COVERINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 219. 161, dated September 9, 1879; application tiled August 6, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, GEORGE GRAY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Iinprovementin Hats, Bonnets, and other Head-Coverings, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specifi ration, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, which represents a vertical crosssection of a hat embracing my invention. 7
This invention relates to the manufacture of hats, bonnets, or other head-coverings with iiock layer; and consists in a base or support of felt cloth, combined with a top iayer of flock, for the purpose of obtaining an article having the characteristics of fine felt, a layer of flock being also applied to the under surface of the brim when a brim is used.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a hat consisting of a base or support, I), of felt cloth, a top layer, 0, of flock, and a flock layer, (1, on the under surface of the brim.
In the construction of this hat I take apiece of felt cloth, either Wool felt or airinferior quality of fur felt, and press the same into the whole with cotton, wool, or fur flock.

What- I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A head-covering consisting of a base or support of felt cloth and a top layer of flock, substantially as described, a new article of manufacture.
2. A briinined head-covering consisting of a base or support of felt cloth, a top layer of flock, and a layer of flock 0n the under surface of the brim, suliistantially as described.
