1 Claim.
The invention relates to improvements in wall constructions and the present disclosure is directed to one having means to prevent ants, termites and other insects from entering houses, buildings, and the like.
The principal object of the invention is'to provide'a wall construction or concrete foundation having a groove therein for the reception of insecticide for repelling and destroying insects and other pests.
Another object of. the invention is to provide a device of this character, means being employed to provide a receptacle in a building block or concrete foundation for an insecticide, provision being made to prevent rain water from washing the insecticide away.
With the foregoing in view theinvention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view, partly in section of a concrete foundation showing the device constructed in accordance with the 5 principles of our invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view partly in section of a building block, and
Figure 3 is a horizontal sectional view throughthe grooved and capped portion of the block.
In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodment of the invention, the numeral 4 generally denotes a wall construction which is provided on its inner and outer sides with channel-shaped grooves of the type shown at 5. In carrying the invention into practice we make use of a metallic protective unit which is in the nature of a metal strip conforming to the shape of the groove 5. The inner end of the strip is bent to form a gutter or receptacle 5a fitting into said groove. The outer wall of the receptacle is formed into a lip 6 resting on the lower edge of the entrance to said groove 5. The intermediate or web portion 1 serves as a lining for the major wall of the groove and the outer or upper and terminates in a down bent flange 8. This is the weather visor or shield. Hanging down over the entrance of the slot, as it does, it prevents wind and' rain from driving and flushing the insecticide from the channel. K
The post 9 constituting the modification in 5 Figure 2 embodies the same principles of construction. lhat is to say, each side has a groove corresponding to the groove 5 already described. The metal shielding unit completely surrounds the grooved portion of the post. The unit here 10 designated by the numeral It) has the same features above described, that is, it includes the lip 6, the wall or web 1, the intervening gutter fitting in the channel and the outstanding hood or flange 8. 15
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that we have produced a novel and unique device which will be very effective in repelling ants, termites and other pests from entering buildings, and because of its extreme simplicity 20 will be inexpensive to manufacture.
It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection 2 with the drawing. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.
Since excellent results are obtainable from the details disclosed, they are preferably followed. However, within the scope of the invention as 30 claimed, numerous modifications'may of course be made.
What is claimed is:
A wall having an inclined groove extending longitudinally in one of the faces thereof, a 35 trough, for the reception of an insecticide, mounted in the groove, said trough including inclined side walls conforming substantially to the walls of the groove, and an oppositely inclined flange on the upper edge of the inner side wall 40 of the trough, said flange projecting from said one face of the wall and substantially covering the mouth of the trough.
