UNITED STATES PATENT FFIGE.
GEORGE A. PORTER, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BALE-TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 211,927, dated February 4, 1879 application filed December 5, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. PoRTER,of Syracuse,0nondaga county, State ofNewYork, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bale-Ties, of which the following is a specification:
My bale-tie consists of a single piece of stout bent wire or rod of metal, as shown in the drawings, its object being cheapness, simplicity of construction, and efficiency and facility in its application.
The construction, as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings, consists of a wire loop, the bight, a of which is flattened, the two sides crossing each other at b, Where they may be pressed together and somewhat flattened to give them stifl'ness. Beyond the crossing-point the ends spread somewhat, and are then turned inward nearly at right angles, and the extreme ends 0 are turned inward, parallel with the bight,
at a, of the loop, and on a line with each other,
leaving a space between them, as clearly seen in Fig. 1.
Fig. 2 shows an end View, and the manner in which the ends 0 c are scarfed off.
Having thus fully described my improved bale-tie, I claim- The bale-tie arranged and constructed, in
GEORGE A. PORTER.
