Description
' 1 K. HAGEBEUKER DEVICE FOR REGULATING CUTTING HEIGHT Filed Jan. 19, 1934 Patented ec. 28, I937 V r v DEVICE FOR nEGULA'riNe CUTTHNG HEIGHT V Karl Hagebeuker', solingen, Germany Application January .19, 1934, Serial No. 797,344
1 Claim. (01, 30-202 This invention relates-to a device attachable theninserted-in adovetailed guide 1 below the to a hair cutting machine for regulating the cutcomb plate 8, so that the free end of the screw ting height. 3 is placed in the slot 9 of the comb plate 8.
The device according to the invention consists Inside the comb plate 8 a recess H] is provided in the main of a slidable comb which is autothrough which the member It can be screwed matically advanced during the forward motion to the ground plate 6 by means of suitable screws, of the cutting machine by the holding of a memthe member i i possessing a rack-like attachment ber, such as a chain etc., located outside the l2 which extends through the opening I ll of the device so as to uniformly increase the cutting comb plate 8. r i height in a certain proportion to theeadvance The drive forthe device consists of the shaft of the cutting head of the clipper. The device 13 "whi h carries at one nd the p y 4 n according to the invention permits-therefore a i the Center the'pihion Ma a p to h neat transition from a very close cut resembling With the toothing of the rack-like attachment l2. shaving to a greater cutting height which leaves The p n n lie carries a s r n n a squ the hair 1 member 85 serving as support for the square end 15 One form of the invention is illustrated in the I? of the p g as indicated in Figsaccompanying drawing, in which 7 V and 18. If the pulley M, the pinion Ma and the Fig. 1 shows aside View of the advancing memsp ie a d p s d n t e s a t 3, the fre ber for the comb plate, end of the latter is provided with a closing mem- Fig, 2 shows a, plan iew of Fig 1, her I3. The shaft 53 With the parts seated 20 Fig 3 shows plan View, of t locking disk thereon is then placed on the comb platetl in for the device for regulating the cutting height, Such a Way that the p n Ma is in mesh with Fig, 4 ho plan vi w f th adjusting cam the toothing E2, the entire structurebeing held for t comb'plgte, in position by a bearing plate l9 attachable to Fig. 5 shows a lock nut for the screw for securthe comb p a 8 by s w To insure aseeure 25 m th lgcking i k in position 1 construction the comb plate 8 has projections 20 Fig. 6 shows the spring for performing the and which engage grooves 22 and'23 in return movement of t comb. plate the pinion Ma and the closing part l8. In Fig.

Fig. 8 shows a plan View thereof, h bearing plate being Omittede pulley 30 Fj g 9 shows an end View of th bearing plate, M is provided with a chain 24 having a suitable Fig, 10 Shows a l View of 9 1 pulling member 25. As shown in Figs. 4 and 18, Fig 11 is th screw for securing t locking 26 is a cam disc which is attached to the free disk to the device, 7 end of the screw 3 and protected against drop- Fig. 12 shows a side view of the cutting head ping out by Check-hut 35 cf a hair cutting machine, The spring it tends to draw back the comb Fig. 13 shows an end view of the c mb plate, plate 8' as far as possible relative to the ground Fig. 14 shows a plan view thereof, plate 6, but by tightening the nut 27 the comb Fig. 15 shows a longitudinal side view of the pl 8 c n r m n l p w h h r nd plate comb plate, 6 in'adjusted position. 40 Fi 16 Shows th closing m mbe for th (men The cutting head 23 shown in Fig. 12 carries in ating shaft for the device when attached to a hair its front p the knives 29 and has on its pp cutting machine, side an oblique guide 30 which forms a shoulder Fig. 1'7 shows the operating shaft with pinion 3| in the body 28. 32 is the countersunk head for advancing the member shown in Figs. 1 and 2; Of a S The greuhd plate 5 pos esses units 45 Fig, '18 is a, plan iew of the comb plate showunderside a suitable slot guide 33 for the screw ing the cutting height regulating device attached head thereto with the bearing plate omitted, and To attach the device to a say electric hair Fig. 19 is aside view of Fig; ,18.' cutter, the ground plate 6 is placed on the screw Referring to the drawing, the disc 2 provided head 32 by means of the bore 33. The disc 2 with a resilient bulge I is attached to the screw is then turned so that it abuts, owing to its resil- 3 by means of its bore 4. The screw 3, together ient bulge I, against the shoulder 3l of the cutwith the disc 2, is then screwed from below into tinghead 28 whereby the screw head 32 is pressed the threaded hole 5 of the ground plate 6 so as into the end of the slot 33 of the ground plate 6 to remain just rotatable. The ground plate 6 is to insure'firm seating of the device on the clip- 55 per, as indicated in Fig. 19. As shown by dash lines in Fig. 8, the underside of the ground plate 6 may be provided with the guide ledges 34 sliding in grooves, not shown, on the member 30.
The device functions as follows:
When the device has been attached to the electric clipper, the parts thereof are in the position shown in Figs. 18 and 19. The comb plate 8 is fully drawn back, so that the clipper can carry out a razor-like cut. To provide gradually for greater cutting length the chain 24 must be held at a certain point so that the pulley M will be rotated during further advance of the clipper and, by means of the gear l4, I2, the comb plate 8 will be gradually pushed forward into the position indicated by dashes in Fig. 19. A return motion of the clipper will in the same manner lead to a reduction in cutting height. If the device is to be adjusted to a special cutting height, the comb plate 8 must first be brought into the desired position by pulling the chain 24,
whereupon the member 21 is tightened to keep the device in adjusted position. The cutting height can be regulated within certain limits by the cam disc 26 whose cams abut against an extension 40 on the comb plate 8, for which purpose the cams of the disc 26 difier in height.
A device attachable to a hair cutting machine for regulating the cutting height, comprising a ground plate attachable to the cutting head of the machine, a recessed comb plate guided on said ground plate, a rack-like attachment on the ground plate extending through the recess in said comb plate, a shaft disposed above the recess on the comb plate, a pinion arranged on said shaft and engaging said rack-like attachment, a pulley firmly disposed on said shaft, a traction member on said pulley for actuating the device, and a spring arranged on said shaft for returning said comb plate to a position of rest.
