Description

B. DREHER. Method of Stringing Pianos.
Patented July 23, 1878.
BAPTIST DREHER, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN THE METHOD OF STRINGING PlANOS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,232, dated Jul 723, 137
application tiled April 15, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BAPTIST DREHER, of Cleveland, in the county of Ouyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Method of Stringing Pianos, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a view of the front side of a sounding-board and frame. Fig. 2 is a view of the reverse side of same.
In the drawing, A represents the iron frame, to which are attached the strings B of a piano. 0 is a sounding-board.
This invention relates to an improved method of stringing pianos; and consists in making an opening, D, in the sounding-board for the purpose of passing the longer or bass strings through, so as to divide the strain of the strings and bring a part of said strain upon both sides, equalizing the pressure upon both sides of the said board, to prevent the drawing of the board out of line, thus preserving the tensile strain of the strings intact.
In the drawing it will be seen that I mil-lit an opening, D, through the said board O, and pass the longer or bass strings through said opening, and secure them to a projection, E, on the frame.
Having described my invention, I claim- The method of stringing pianos consisting, in a piano sounding-board, having an opening, D, of the combination of the strings B, as shown and described, whereby the tensile strain is equally divided and brought to bear on both the front and rear sides of the board, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
BAPTIST DREHER.
