2 Claims. (01. 248-44) This invention relates to aerialsupports,v clothes line supports, and similar devices, and has for its principal object the production of a simple and efficient means for facilitating the fastening $5.01 the support upon the wall of a building.
A further object of the invention is the production of a simple and efficient anchoring means for a support which may be usedas an aerial,. or dryer, and oneof the important objects of the m anchoring means is the provision of a clamp for firmly holding the anchoring means upon a wall T! or other supporting medium.

By referring to the drawings; it will be seen 20 that W indicates the wall orother support upon which the device is to be mounted. As shown in detail in Figure 3, I providexa base 20 which consists of acplate having a centrally raised portion 21 which. is provided: an internally threaded socket 221. Thissocket 22 is adapted .to receive; the lower end of theastandardS and may be made sufficiently large to receive an externally threaded and internally threaded thimb'le 23 in the nature of an: adapter, to accommodate various sizes of standards; This base: 20 is provided near two: of. its: parallel side edges with track-ways 24 terminating short of the center of the base 20:, as indicated at 25,. and these track-ways 24 receive the adjustableclamping. strips 26' which are slidably mounted. within the track-ways 24. The clamping. strips 26: are provided with downwardly bent substantially U-shaped clamping feet 21 whiclr are" preferably shaped: to clamp about the upperledgezof? the" wall W as shown clearly in Figures I and 2.- The: inner'end. of each clamping strip 26 is provided with ,an upwardly extending: ear 28; Av clamping screw supporting lug. 29 iscarri'ed by' the base 26 upon either side and is'arrchored upon the base, as shown in Figure 3; Aclamping screw 30? extends through the upwardly extending ears 28: of the clamping: plates 26? and also through th'e lug 2 9, and this clampinglscrew 30 may be oppositely threaded at its ends which pass' through: the ears 28 for the purpose of drawing the clamping strips 26 to a tightened position when the screw 30 is rotated in onedirection and moving the clamping strips 26* toma: loosened: position: when the clamping screw 3001s rotated in an opposite direction. This screw may carry a removable key head 3I to facilitate the rotation of the clamping screw 30. As shown in Figure 3, the clamping plates or strips 26 mounted near opposite side edges of the base 20 are actuated in a similar manner as just described, the structure just described being duplicated on opposite sides of the base 20, as shown in Figure 3.
The standard S consists of a lower section 32 and an upper telescoping section 33. The lower section 32 is threaded into the adapter 23, and the upper section 33 is slidably mounted within the lower section 32 and is held in an adjusted position through the medium of a set screw 34. The upper end of the section 32 supports a crossarm 35 which is held in an adjusted position through the medium of a set screw 38. This cross-arm 35 carries a plurality of hooks 36' which are connected to suitable rope connecting swivels 3'? which connect the ropes or cables 38 to the cross-larm 35. Any desired number of these hooks and swivels may be employed without departing from the'spirit of the invention.
. The upper section 33 is provided with a reduced extension 39 upon which is fitted the upper crossarm 80, this-upper cross-arm 40 being anchored upon the upper section 33 in an adjusted position bymeans of a set screw II. The upper crossarm 00 also supports hooks 42 which engage rope securing swivels 43 to which the ropes 44 are attached f In Figure 4 there is shown a modified form of .a wall which maybe particularly shaped such for instance, ,as' the type of wall illustrated in Figure 8.
In Figure 5 there is shown a further modified form of the inventionwherein the base 49 consists' of a relatively fiat plate having a socket portion 50 arranged in the center thereof for supporting a standard. Track-ways 5| are carried by the upper face of the base 49, which trackways receive clamping plates 52 having upwardly extending ears 53. An adjustingscrew 54 is carried by one of the ears 53 and is threaded through the opposite ear for the purpose of facilitating the tightening of the plates 52 to a clamped position or moving the plates to a loosened position.
In Figurefi, there is shown another modified form of the invention illustrating a base 55 hav-' ing a standard receiving socket 56 upon the upper face thereof. The base 55 is provided with upwardly extending apertured ears 5'! near the corners'thereof, through which apertured ears extends the threaded adjusting rod 58, this rod 58 being threadedand extending'through the sub-.
stantially U-shaped wall-engaging clamps 59,
' the adjusting rod 58 being so threaded as to draw porting socket 6| upon the upper face thereof- The base 83 is provided with elongated channels 62 near two of its opposite side edges and each channel is adapted to receive an elongated clamp ing' rod 83, the rod 63 having threaded engagement with the clamp -08 in such a manner as to cause the clamps 64 to be drawn together when the rod 63 is rotated in one direction and spread apart when the rod 53 is rotated in the opposite direction.
The present device is especially adapted for supporting clothes lines, aerials, and other similar means, the device as illustrated in Figure 1 being particularly adapted for supporting clothes lines and to be used as a dryer.
In Figure 8, however, the device illustrated is particularly adapted for useas an aerial support. In the structure shown in Figure 8, a Wall Will be noted, which is provided with a specially designed ledge portion B. The aerial support of the type illustrated comprises a base I0 carrying adjusting clamp-s II, which clamps II are adapted to be drawn together so as to cause the ends 12 to fit in snug clamped engagement around the ledge B. The base 10 is provided with a standard supporting socket portion 13 upon which is mounted or fitted the lower section' HI of the standard. An upper adjustable section.15 is fitted within the lower section I4. This upper section I5 is provided with a reduced extension 16 which fits in a socket TI formed in the crossarm I8 and this cross-arm I8 is locked in position through the medium of a set screw I9. The: cross-arm I8 is provided with a suitable connection for securing the aerial wires 8I to-the cross-arm I8. A lead-in wire 82 is secured to one of the wires BI and passes through a guiding eye 83 near the top of the upper section 15 and through a guiding eye 84 near the bottom of the lower section 'Mand down to a suitable inlet, the
lead-in wire 82 being preferably guided through an eye 85 carried by the wall A.
In Figures 11, 12, and 13, there isshown a type of anchoring means for securing a cross-arm 86 to the standard 87. The standard 81 may be:

It should be understood that certain detail changes in the mechanical construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be employed without departing from the spirit of the invention so long as such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what I claim as new is:-
1. A support of the character described including a base, apertured ears rising from said base and located near corners of the base with pairs of companion ears at opposite sides of the base, a threaded rod extending through each pair of companion ears with end portions of the rod projecting from the base, and substantially U- shaped clamping members threaded upon the projecting end portions of each rod in a manner to move the clamping members towards and away from a clamping position as the rod is rotated.
2. A support of the character described including a base, ears rising from the baseadjacent opposite side edges thereof, threaded rods carried by said ears, and clamps having upstanding lugs formed with threaded openings receiving said rods to shift the clamps towards and away from a clamping position when the rods are rotated, said clamps having depending portions located beyond margins of the base and terminating in inwardly extending claws at their lower ends for gripping a support when the clamps are moved towards each other to a clamping position.
