' This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a clasp for sculpture hair curls formed by finger waving or the like.

The invention has for an object the construction of an article as mentioned which is characterized by a single piece of wire bent and formed to have a top arm consisting of two side members for engaging across the outer face of a curl, and also having a bottom arm for engaging across the inner face of the curl.

More particularly, the invention proposes a novel constructionof a sculpture hair curl clasp so that it may be readily applied in position and very eiiiciently hold the finger wave and the curls.

Still further it is proposed to construct the hair clasp so that it may be easily withdrawn from the finger wave when desired.

A further object of the invention is the teaching of various embodiments of the invention which are adapted to utilize substantially the identical inventive principles.

Another object of the invention is the construction of a device as mentioned which is simple and durable and which can be manufactured at a reasonable cost.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the'objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing and following description, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features are more particularly set'forth.

The hair clasp shown in Figs. l-3, inclusive comprises a single piece of wire having a top arm l0 consisting of side members l0 and H)" for engaging across the outer face of a sculpture curl 2| formed by finger waving or any other manner, and including a bottom arm II for engaging across the inner face of the curl. The bottom arm H consists of two side members II and H". The front ends of the side members ID and ID", are connected with a bent section I2. This bent section is slightly extended upwards when viewed in side elevation (see Fig. 3) so that there is a wedge action tending to separate the arms when the clasp is engaged upon the curl. The rear ends of the side members l0 and I0" are connected with small bends I3 with the rear ends of the side members H and II. These bends I 3 are substantially in vertical plane, except for the fact. that the planes are at slight angles to the vertical so that in plan view the side arms 1 l and I l" are located slightly spaced outwards from the side arms l0 and I0".

The free ends it of the side arms H and H" are bent outwards within a common plane with the side arms. The front areas of the side arms H and II" are formed with wavy sections I5 arranged with the waves in a common plane with the said side arms. Fig. 1 illustrates the clasp in engaged position. holding a finger wave 2|. It will readily be understood from a mere inspection of Fig. 1 that the clasp can readily be slipped off from the curl. The feature of the waved portions I5 being in the same plane as the side arms Ii' and II", is that the operative holding efiect of the clasp will be materially increased.

The advantage of having the side arms H and H slightly spaced outwards from the side arms Ill and I0" resides in the fact that then the clasp will be capable of tending to slightly bend the hair curl and so obtain a, tight grip to maintain its position and properly hold the wave in formation. The advantage of having the ends 14 bent outwards resides in the fact that the possibility of accidentally injuring a person with a sharp edge will be materially reduced.

In Figs. 4 and 5 another embodiment of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the preferred form and the identical parts may be recognized by the identical reference numerals. This form of the invention distinguishes from the prior form in the fact that the thearms II' and Ii", respectively.

The portions l3 preferably are inwardly bent portions and touch one another and close the gap II. with this arrangement the clasp will have an increased holding effect on the curls and prevent any hair'strand from entering be tween the side arms I. and II".

In Figs. 6 and '7, another embodiment of the invention has been disclosed which is very similar to the form shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, but distinguishes in very minor respects. The side arms II and II" are not formed with the wavy sections II. Each of the side arms Ii and Ii" is formed with upward directed wave portions l6 adapted to engage inside of the side arms II and II". The side arms II and I I" are normal- 1y disposed outside of the side arms II and II" as illustrated by the full lines inFig. "I. When the clasp is engaged upon the hair, it is possible tomanually press the side arms ii and II" to gether so as to cause the upward directed portions II from the side arms II and H" to en- ..8 8e inside of the side arms i0 and III" to engage the clasp firmly upon the hair. The clasp cannot be removed unless the side arms Ii and II" are first released by forcing them outwards back to their original positions. In other respects this form is similar to the forms previously described and the same parts have identical reference numerals.

In Fig. 8 another form of the invention has been disclosed in which the hair clasp is formed with straight parallel bottom arms ll add II". In another respect this form of the invention is identical with the form illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5. I

In Figs. 9 and 10 another modified form of the invention has been disclosed in which the hair clasp is formed froma single piece of wire having a top arm in! and a bottom arm I I. The top arm III is formed with side members I0 and A bend I2 connects the front ends of the side members l0 and I0". At the rear ends the side members It and iii" are connected with downward bend l3 and then are connected by a twisted area it. Only one ofthe side members continues from the twisted area Iii, producing the bottomarm II. This bottom arm is formed with a central wavy area and terminates at the end in a straight portion. It is arranged between the side members III and ii)".

In Fig. 11 another modified form of the invention has been disclosed which is identical to the form shown in Figs. 9 and 10 except the top arm III" is formed with diverging side members II and I0" and the bottom arm II is formed with twists it throughout its length.

The form of the invention illustrated in Figs. 12 and 13 is similar to that disclosed in Fig. 8 except that the bottom arm ii is formed with diverging sections II and II".

aoanass In m. 14 and 15 another modified form of the invention has been disclosed in which the clasp comprises a single piece of wire having a toparm II andabottomarm II. The toparm I0 is composed from side members I. and II" 5 slightly outside of the side members, II and II".

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the preeise'construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: a

1. A hair curl clasp, comprising a single piece of wire having a top arm for engagin across the outer face of a curl, and a bottom arm for engaging across the inner face of the curl, each of said arms consisting of two side members, the front ends of the side members of the top arm being connected with a bent section, the rear ends of the side members of the top arm continuing into the rear ends of the side members of the bottom arm, the side members from the bottom arm being formed with upward bent portions adapted to engage the inner side of the side members of the top arm to latch the clasp closed on the hair.

2. A hair curl clasp. comprising a single piece of wire having a top arm for engaging across the outer face of a curl, and a bottom arm for engaging across the inner face of the curl, each of said arms consisting of two side members, the front ends of the side members of the top arm being connected with a bent section, the rear ends of the side members of the top arm con- 4 tinuing into the rear ends of the side members of the bottom arm, and connected with bent portions themselves bent together for closing the gap between the side members. 5 3.
