which may be integral with the blank or may be entirely separate therefrom and adjustable with respect to the container. The band normally holds the container in closed position but may be moved to a position outside the hinge line of a portion of the top of the container which forms a cover when access is desired to the contents of the receptacle.

The invention also consists in certain new and original features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter set forth and claimed.

Although the novel features which are believed to be characteristic of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto, the invention itself, as to its objects and advantages, and the manner in which it may be carried out, may be better understood by referring to the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming apart thereof, in which Fig. 1 represents a blank from which the container is formed, the continuous lines representing cuts and the dot-and-dash lines representing scores;

Fig. 2 is a perspective of this container closed;

Fig. 3 illustrates the assembly of this container;

Fig. 4 represents the container closed but with the band positioned to allow raising of the cover; and

Fig. 5 illustrates the container opened with the band removed for purposes of illustration.

In the following description and in the claims, various details will be identified by specific names for convenience, but they are intended to be as generic in their application as the art will permit.

In the drawings accompanying and forming part of this specification, certain specific disclosure of the invention is made for purposes of explanation, but it will be understood that the details may be modified in various respects with out departure from the broad aspect of the intom wall 50, side walls .5! and end walls 54 and.

Either wall 54 or 55, or both, are preferably coated with glue, as indicated, and the flaps 53 are secured to end wall 54 and liner 55 in a 15 manner similar to the corresponding parts described above. In the same way flaps 6| are secured to end wall 62 andliner 53.

after which the band 65 is placed in the position shown in Fig. 4. This band may be formed of paper and may be made of a single strip whose 25 ends are pasted together at 66. The band preferably fits snugly over the body of the box, indicated by 10 and illustrated in Fig. 4. This permits the cover, indicated by H, to be raised to give access to the box. If desired, the band 30 65 may he slid over the cover H, as indicated in Fig. 2, to prevent accidental opening of the cover during shipment. The downwardly extending projections I56 prevent the band 65 from slipping Ofi.- 35 It will be noted that the end wall 54 is shortened to provide easier access to the interior of the box, making this box particularly suitable for such articles as writing paper and handkerchiefs. Thus, types of containers are provided, the 40 bodies of which are held together preferably by a single band of material. The covers are formed integral with a side wall of the box and are easily opened to give access to the interior of the box. This type of'container' is well adapted to 45 certain kinds of merchandise which will occur to those skilled in the art, for example, handkerchiefs, writing paper and carbon paper for typewriters, etc. It will be understood, however, that these containers may be used for many other 0 While certain novelfeatures of the invention have'been disclosed and are pointed out in the annexed claims, it will be understood that various omissions,- substitutions and changes may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit oi the invention.

What is claimed is:

l. A container comprising a body having bottom, side and end walls, a top wall integral with one or said end walls and a cover hinged to said top wall, said cover having enclosing side walls and an end wall adapted to telescope with respect to said body portion, a movable band securing the top wall and the side and bottom walls 0! the body in separable set-up assembly, and projections extending from one of said walls to prevent said band from slipping of! said container.

2; A container formed from asingle blank 0! paperboard material comprising a bottom wall, upstanding side walls and iront and rear end walls connected thereto, a top wall connected-to said rear end wall, a cover hinged to said top wall, side walls and a front end wall on said cover adapted to telescope over said body side walls and front end wall, and a separable band of material passing around said container, said band being slidable into a first position to surround said cover, said cover side walls and said bottom wall to maintain said container in set-up assembly position, and hold said cover closed, said band being slidable into a second position to permit opening of said cover, and a pair of tabs projecting from the lower edge of said rear end wall to retain said band on said container.
