Description

    FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The invention relates to an exhaust extraction system comprising a stretchable and recoverable exhaust suction hose and a nozzle for connection of the exhaust suction hose to an exhaust pipe of a vehicle.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The extraction system in which a connecting element in the form of a hose or nozzle is connected to an exhaust-gas source is commonly used. Typical examples are inspection halls, assembly halls, workshops or erecting halls for emergency vehicles in which the connecting element is connected to the exhaust pipe of the vehicle. The connecting element is generally designed such that its engagement with the exhaust pipe is released when the vehicle drives away.
  • Devices of the type indicated are known from SE 430 139, in which a nozzle is specially designed to fit the exhaust pipe. The nozzle is equipped with a pliers-type clamping device which is clamped to the exhaust pipe to maintain the nozzle in position. The clamping device is automatically released by sliding off the exhaust pipe as the vehicle drives away.
  • It is also known to connect the exhaust suction hose to the exhaust pipe by means of an inflatable bellows.
  • Another solution is known from EP 0 459 249 B1, in which the exhaust suction hose cooperates with a tensioning device which is adapted to be tensioned by bending and/or stretching an end portion of the hose and which retains the end portion to the exhaust pipe by being tensioned when the exhaust suction hose is attached to a part of the vehicle other than the exhaust pipe via a fastening device. The fastening device comprises an electromagnet disposed on the hose.
  • OBJECTS OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
  • Starting from these basic solutions, there is a need for a simple exhaust extraction system which allows quick and easy engagement and disengagement with the vehicle and its exhaust pipe.
  • Further, the system should be cheap and easy to maintain.
  • Additionally, the system should provide a safe handling during and immediately after a disengagement with a minimum of swinging due to a spring-back.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In order to achieve the above-specified and further unspecified objects, which will emerge from the following description, the present invention relates to an exhaust extraction system comprising a stretchable and recoverable exhaust suction hose, a nozzle for connection of the exhaust suction hose to an exhaust pipe of a vehicle, a releasing arrangement and a magnet adapted to magnetically engage with an anchoring means, wherein
  • said magnet being a permanent magnet is supported by said exhaust suction hose on a distance from said nozzle, and
  • said releasing arrangement being arranged to convert a stretching of the exhaust suction hose to a angling movement of said magnet in view of said anchoring means in a direction out of the parting plane between the two engagement surfaces of the magnet and the anchoring means for releasing an engagement between the magnet and the anchoring means.
  • The inventive system is adapted to convert the stretching of the hose that is caused by the vehicle driving away with a part of the hose connected to an anchoring means on the vehicle into an angling movement between the magnet and the anchoring means. The angling takes place in a direction out of the parting plane between the engagement surfaces of the magnet and the anchoring means. Thereby the engagement surfaces will be split apart. By the angling movement, the force required to disengage the magnet and the anchoring means will be essentially lower than the force required if the magnet and the anchoring means were just to be pulled apart by a linear movement, either perpendicular or horizontal to said parting line. The force generated by the vehicle driving away while stretching the exhaust suction hose will be sufficient. Also, the force required can be manually generated without the need of any considerable physical strength.
  • By the inventive solution using a permanent magnet, the exhaust extraction system requires no electricity, wiring or signal handling, whereby the costs can be reduced. Also, maintenance can be greatly facilitated and reduced.
  • The releasing arrangement can comprise an actuation means and a lever, said actuation means extending along the longitudinal extension of at least a portion of said exhaust suction hose, and said lever at a first end thereof being connected to said magnet and at a second end thereof connected to a first end of said actuation means in a first connection point arranged on a distance from said magnet, and wherein a second end of said actuation means is connected to the exhaust extraction system in a second connection point, whereby the actuation means is adapted to pull said lever when said portion of the exhaust suction hose is stretched to a length exceeding a length of said actuation means.
  • By the lever at one end being connected to said magnet, the magnet will be released from its engagement with the anchoring means by an angling movement in a direction out of the parting plane between the engagement surfaces of the magnet and the anchoring means. The force required to disengage the magnet and the anchoring means by a angling movement is lower than the force required when pulling the magnet linearly, either perpendicular to the parting plane or horizontally thereto. By the lever, the required force will be additionally lowered. The force required will be generated automatically by the vehicle stretching the exhaust suction hose as it is driving away. After a certain degree of stretching the hose, the actuation means will be affected to pull the lever generating said angling.
  • The actuation means can be chosen from the group consisting of a wire, a rod, a link, a chain, a wire and a resilient member. The actuation means can be rigid, allowing no slacking in a resting position, or be flexible allowing slacking in a resting position. By the term “resting position” is meant a position where the magnet is engaging the anchoring means and no stretching is applied to the exhaust suction hose by said vehicle.
  • The system can further comprise a damping means extending along the longitudinal extension of said exhaust suction hose. The damping means can be stretchable together with stretching of the hose. Thereby, the damping means together with the stretchable and recoverable exhaust suction hose can accommodate an elastic deformation in the form of an elongation before the lever is operated by the actuation means. It will also result in a smooth relaxation of the swinging/oscillation of the system before and after release. The latter is of importance to avoid injuries on persons or items.
  • Further, the damping means can act as a suspension of the exhaust suction hose contracting the depending part of the hose when suspended to a trolley, a beam, a ceiling or the like. This is an advantage when the hose is of such design where its deadweight causes an extension that might be sufficient to pull the lever. The very same can be achieved by using a balancer suspending the hose.
  • The damping means can have a first connection point on said exhaust suction hose and a second connection point in a position in the system being so arranged that a stretching of the hose results in an elastic stretching of at least a part of said damping means.
  • The damping means can comprise a resilient member or a first resilient member combined with a means chosen from the group consisting of a wire, a rod, a link, a chain, a wire and a second resilient member. The first and second resilient members can be made of an elastically deformable material such as a rubber material or a polymeric material or be made of a coil spring or the like. It is to be understood that combinations thereof are possible.
  • The damping means can have a first connection point on said lever in a position closer to the magnet than the first connection point of the actuation means and a second connection point on a portion of said exhaust suction hose. By the different distances of the first connection points of the actuation means and the damping means to the magnet, a lever is formed which facilitates the angling movement of the magnet in view of the anchoring means when the lever is pulled.
  • The damping means can have a spring constant being lower than a spring constant of said actuation means. Thereby, the damping means together with the stretchable and recoverable exhaust suction hose will accommodate an elastic deformation before the lever is operated by the actuation means. This will result in a smooth disengagement between the magnet and the anchoring means, and also a smooth spring-back of the swinging/oscillation of the system after release. Further, the damping means will act as a suspension contracting the hose in its resting position, thereby preventing the deadweight of the depending hose part causing an extension of the hose that might be sufficient to pull the lever.
  • The second connection points of said actuation means and said damping means can be arranged adjacent a suspension of said exhaust extraction system. The suspension can by way of example be a suspension to a trolley, a beam or a ceiling. The suspension can comprise a connection piece of the exhaust suction hose.
  • The second connection points of said actuation means and said damping means can coincide or be arranged adjacent each other. At least the second connection points are preferably hinged to allow accommodation of movements of the exhaust suction hose.
  • The system can further comprise a nozzle hose connected to said exhaust suction hose via a coupling means, wherein said nozzle is arranged at a free end of said nozzle hose, said coupling means allowing a through passage between said exhaust suction hose and said nozzle hose, and wherein said magnet is arranged on said coupling means.
  • The nozzle hose can be provided by the supplier as a fitting, whereby the user easily can change or adapt the nozzle hose and the nozzle to the type of vehicle or the type of exhaust pipe while the exhaust suction hose is operable no matter vehicle/exhaust pipe. The coupling means, preferably permanently mounted to the exhaust suction hose, allows an easy change and mounting of the nozzle hose. The coupling means can also be used as a support for the magnet and provide connection portions for the actuation means and the damping means. Further, the coupling means can act as a lever.
  • The first connection point for connection of the first end of said actuation means can be arranged on said coupling means. The first connection point is preferably arranged on an interior wall portion of the coupling means, diametrically opposite the magnet. Thereby the length of the lever will essentially correspond to the distance between the engagement surface of the magnet and said first connection point of the actuation means.
  • The lever can be formed by the coupling means. Thereby, the lever can be formed by the wall portions of said coupling means. The length of the lever will thus in such embodiment essentially correspond to the diameter/cross sectional measure of the coupling means plus the thickness of the magnet, provided the first connection point of the actuation means is arranged at the interior wall portion of the coupling means diametrically opposite the magnet.
  • The actuation means and the damping means can be arranged to extend inside said exhaust suction hose, whereby they will be protected from the outer environment and thereby be less prone to failure.
  • The system can further comprise a safety coupling adapted to release the engagement between a vehicle and a portion of the exhaust extraction system, in the case of releasing the engagement between the magnet and the anchoring means accidentally should fail.
  • The anchoring means can be arranged on the vehicle in a position other than its exhaust pipe. It can be by way of example be on its body or on any member mounted thereto.
  • According to another aspect, the invention relates to an exhaust extraction system comprising a stretchable and recoverable exhaust suction hose, a nozzle for connection of the exhaust suction hose to an exhaust pipe of a vehicle, a permanent magnet adapted to magnetically engage with an anchoring means, and a releasing arrangement wherein
  • said magnet is supported by said exhaust suction hose on a distance from said nozzle,
  • said releasing arrangement comprises an actuation means and a lever, wherein the actuation means extends along the longitudinal extension of at least a portion of said exhaust suction hose, and
  • said lever at a first end thereof is connected to said magnet and at a second end thereof connected to a first end of said actuation means on a distance from said magnet, and
  • wherein a second end of said actuation means is connected to the exhaust extraction system, whereby
  • the actuation means is adapted to pull said lever when said portion of the exhaust suction hose is stretched to a length exceeding a length of said actuation means, whereby
  • said releasing arrangement converts a stretching of the exhaust suction hose to an angling movement of said magnet in view of said anchoring means in a direction out of the parting plane between the two engagement surfaces of the magnet and the anchoring means for releasing an engagement between the magnet and the anchoring means.
  • The system can further comprise a damping means, wherein said damping means has a first connection point on said exhaust suction hose and a second connection point in a position in the system being so arranged that a stretching of the hose results in a elastic stretching of at least a part of said damping means.
  • The system according to this aspect mainly involves the same features as the system previously discussed. To avoid undue repetition, reference is made to the sections above to better understand the function and advantages thereof.

  • TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
  • With reference to FIG. 1, an embodiment of an extraction system 1 according to the invention is disclosed. The disclosed embodiment comprises an exhaust suction hose 2 presenting a continuous part which extends along a runway 3 and which is suspended therein in at least one point with the aid of at least one trolley 4 which is movable along the runway. The runway can also be arranged along a wall portion or on a beam. The exhaust suction hose is in one end connected to a fan (not disclosed) which is adapted to produce a negative pressure in the exhaust suction hose to suck out the exhaust fumes from the premises via said hose. Before the exhaust fumes are released into the environment they may suitably be cleaned in a filtering assembly (not disclosed).
  • The exhaust suction hose 2 depends with one end from the suspension of the hose to the trolley. The depending end is in the disclosed embodiment connected to a nozzle hose 6 via a coupling means 7.
  • The exhaust suction hose 2 is made of a stretchable and recoverable material and structure, well known in the art. A suitable type is that having a fan-folded design with a spirally wound reinforcement.
  • In the portion where the hose 2 is to be suspended to a trolley 4 or the like, the hose is preferably provided with a connection piece 18 providing extra support for the hose and providing a suspension portion 19. The connection piece is preferably made of a rigid material such as metallic or reinforced plastics.
  • The nozzle hose 6 can be made of a stretchable and recoverable material and structure, well known in the art. A suitable type is that having a fan-folded design with a spirally wound reinforcement.
  • The nozzle hose 6 is preferably at its outer end provided with a nozzle 6 a. It is to be understood that the nozzle 6 a in its simplest embodiment can be formed by the outer free end 6 b of the nozzle hose 6.
  • The nozzle 6 a can have clamping means (not disclosed) adapted to engage the exhaust pipe on its interior or its exterior side. Alternatively, it can have a larger inner diameter than the exhaust pipe of the vehicle whereby it can be loosely arranged onto the exhaust pipe.
  • The coupling means 7, also disclosed in FIG. 2, has the shape of a through pipe section with a first end 7 a adapted to connect to the exhaust suction hose and a second end 7 b adapted to connect to the nozzle hose. The coupling means 7 allows in its mounted position a through passage between said exhaust suction hose 2 and said nozzle hose 6. In its simplest form the coupling means has the shape of a longitudinal, circumferential wall portion 8.
  • To allow an easy removal or change of the nozzle hose, at least the second end portion 7 b adapted to engage the nozzle hose 6 can be adapted to allow a quick coupling there between.
  • The coupling means 7 comprises a permanent magnet 9 arranged on a portion which during use of the system is adapted to be facing an anchoring means 10. The magnet 9 can be arranged on the exterior wall portion of the coupling means, but it can also be integrated in the wall portion of the coupling means or be arranged on the wall portion facing the interior of the coupling means.
  • The strength of the permanent magnet 9 depends, as the skilled person will understand, i.e. on its position in the coupling means 7, the dimension of the lever to be discussed, the dimensioned force to release the engagement between the magnet 9 and the anchoring means 10, the deadweight of the depending portion of the hose 2 and the suspending effect of the damping means.
  • The magnet 9 preferably has a flat exterior engagement surface 9 a adapted to engage a corresponding essentially flat engagement surface 10 a of the anchoring means 10.
  • The disclosed coupling means has a first connection portion 11 adapted for connection of a first end 20 a of an actuation means 20 and a second connection portion 12 adapted for connection of a first end 30 a of a damping means 30.
  • The first connection portion 11 adapted for the actuation means 20 is preferably arranged on the wall portion 8 a diametrically opposite the magnet 9. The second connection portion 12 adapted for the damping means 30 is preferably arranged on the wall portion 8 b adjacent the magnet 9.
  • The first connection portions 11, 12 of the actuation means 20 and the damping means 30 respectively should be separated from each other to form an essentially horizontal distance there between.
  • The circumferential wall portion 8 of the coupling means 7 extending between the magnet 9 and the connection point 11 a of the first end 20 a of the actuator means 20 forms a lever 40; L. The function of this lever will be discussed below.
  • The coupling means 7 can be provided with a handle 50 to allow easy manual operation of the system. The handle 50 is preferably arranged on the exterior side of the wall portion 8 diametrically opposite the magnet 9. The handle 50 will in addition to just being a handle allowing manual operation of the system by operating as a second, manually operated lever LH. This will be discussed below.
  • The permanent magnet 9 of the coupling means 7 is adapted to interact with an anchoring means 10. The anchoring means is highly schematically illustrated in FIG. 2. The anchoring means 10 can be arranged on the vehicle 60 in a position other than its exhaust pipe, e.g. on the body or on any member mounted thereto.
  • The anchoring means 10 can in its simplest form be made of a surface having such properties that a magnetic component can be magnetically attached thereto. The anchoring means 10 preferably presents an engagement surface 10 a corresponding to that of the magnet, such as an essentially flat surface.
  • With reference to FIG. 3, the system comprises a releasing arrangement, said releasing arrangement being arranged to convert a stretching of the exhaust suction hose 2 to a angling movement a of said magnet 9 in view of said anchoring means 10 in a direction out of the parting plane PP between the two engagement surfaces 9 a, 10 a of the magnet 9 and the anchoring means 10 for releasing an engagement there between.
  • The conversion is performed by the actuation means 20 which, in the disclosed embodiment, is formed by a wire 21 extending between the coupling means 7 and an area 22 of the exhaust suction hose being arranged above, i.e. downstream, the coupling means. In the disclosed embodiment this area 22 is constituted by the connecting piece 18 forming a suspension of the exhaust suction hose 2 to the trolley.
  • The actuation means 20 is chosen from the group consisting of a wire, a rod, a link, a chain, a wire and a resilient member. Provided the selected type allows, the actuation means 20 can be mounted with a slacking in its resting position.
  • A first end 20 a of the actuation means 20 is connected to the first connection portion 11 of the coupling means 7 in a first connection point 11 a. The first connection point 11 a is preferably arranged on an interior wall portion 8 of the coupling means 7, diametrically opposite the magnet 9. The length of the lever L will thus essentially correspond to the linear distance between the exterior engagement surface 9 a of the magnet 9 and the first connection point 11 a.
  • As disclosed, the second end 20 b of the actuation means 20 is arranged in the area 22 constituted by the connecting piece 18. To withstand forces applied to the actuation means 20, such area should preferably be rigid. Suitable materials are metal or reinforced plastics.
  • The actuation means 20 is preferably arranged on the interior side of the exhaust suction hose 2 to avoid accidental contact with the environment.
  • With reference to FIG. 3, the system can further comprise a damping means 30. The damping means 30 is optional.
  • The damping means can act as a suspension of the exhaust suction hose contracting the depending part of the hose when suspended to i.e. a trolley, a beam, a ceiling or the like. This is advantageous when the hose is of such design where its deadweight causes an extension that might be sufficient to pull the lever. The damping means will thus support the hose. The very same can be achieved by using a balancer.
  • It will also result in a smooth relaxation of the swinging/oscillation of the system before and after release from a vehicle. The latter is of importance to avoid injuries on persons or items.
  • In the disclosed embodiment the damping means 30 is formed by a wire 31 extending between the coupling means 7 and a portion of the exhaust suction hose 2 being arranged above, i.e. downstream, the coupling means. In the disclosed embodiment this portion is area 22 constituted by the connecting piece 18.
  • The disclosed damping means 30 comprises a wire 31 connected to a resilient member 32, e.g. in the form of a coil spring. The damping means 30 can also comprise a single resilient member or comprise a first resilient member combined with a means chosen from the group consisting of a wire, a rod, a link, a chain, a wire and a second resilient member.
  • A first end 30 a of the damping means 30 is connected to the second connection portion 12 of the coupling means. The second connection point 12 a thus formed is preferably arranged on an interior wall portion of the coupling means 7, adjacent the magnet 9.
  • As disclosed, the second end 30 b of the damping means 30 is arranged in the area 22 constituted by the connecting piece 18. To withstand forces applied to the damping means 30, such area should preferably be rigid. Suitable materials are metal or reinforced plastics.
  • It is to be understood that the first 30 a and second ends 30 b of the damping means 30 can be arranged in other positions than those illustrated and described with remained function. The damping means 30 should though preferably have a first connection point 12 a on said exhaust suction hose 2 and a second connection point 12 b in a position in the system being so arranged that a stretching of the hose 2 results in a elastic stretching of at least a part of said damping means 30.
  • The second end 30 b of the damping means 30 can be connected to the same connection point as the second end 20 b of the actuation means 20.
  • The damping means 30 is preferably arranged on the interior side of the exhaust suction hose 2 to avoid accidental contact with the environment.
  • In the following, one way of mounting the actuation means 20 and the damping means 30 will be discussed based on a situation where both are wires.
  • The first end 20 a of the actuation means 20 is connected to the first connection point 11 a of the coupling means 7. This can by way of example be made by means of a wire joint. Then, the second end 20 b of the actuation means 20 is connected to the connection piece 18, again by using a wire joint. Before locking, the actuation means 20 is tensioned in order to contract the stretchable and recoverable exhaust suction hose 2 a certain degree, such as e.g. ca 25 mm. The wire joint is now locked in this position.
  • Then, the first end 30 a of the damping means 30 is connected to the coupling means 7 in the second connection point 12 a. This can by way of example be made by means of a wire joint. Then, the second end 30 b of the damping means 30 is connected to the connection piece 18, again by using a wire joint. Before locking, the damping means 30 is tensioned in order to additionally contract the stretchable and recoverable exhaust suction hose 2, such as e.g. ca 25-50 mm. The wire joint is now locked in this position. The actuation means will by this measure have a slacking of about 50-75 mm.
  • Provided the exhaust suction hose is properly mounted to a runway or the like, the system is now suspended and ready to be used.
  • By the damping means, the hose 2 is contracted to overcome or reduce an extension of the hose due to its deadweight.
  • Nota bene, provided the actuator means 20 selected is rigid, the system is mounted without any pre-contraction of the hose 2 caused by the actuator means.
  • In the following the operation of the exhaust extraction system will be discussed.
  • Starting with FIG. 4 a, the system 1 is schematically disclosed in its resting position where the nozzle hose 6 via its nozzle 6 a is attached to an exhaust pipe 61 of a vehicle 60. In the disclosed embodiment, the nozzle 6 a is attached to the exhaust pipe 61 by loosely enclosing an exterior surface thereof. Also, the magnet 9 positioned on the exterior side of the coupling means 7 is engaged with an anchoring means 10 mounted on the vehicle 60 in a position different from the exhaust pipe 61. By the damping means, the hose 2 is in the resting position contracted to overcome or reduce an extension of the hose due to its deadweight.
  • Now turning to FIG. 4 b, a situation is illustrated where the vehicle 60 drives away. As the vehicle moves, the exhaust suction hose 2 is stretched by the magnet 9 of the coupling means 7 magnetically engaging the anchoring means 10 on the vehicle 60. The stretching of the hose 2 thus caused by the magnet overcomes the contraction of the same caused by the damping means 30.
  • Depending on the material properties of the actuation means 20 and/or any initial slacking thereof, a position will be reached where the actuation means 20 will apply a pulling force FA to its connection to the lever L, i.e. the first connection portion 11 a, whereby the lever is pulled.
  • As the lever L is pulled, see FIG. 4 c, the stretching of the hose 2 will be converted into an angling movement a between the magnet 9 and the anchoring means 10. The angling a takes place in a direction out of the parting plane PP between the engagement surfaces 9 a, 10 a of the magnet 9 and the anchoring means 10. Thereby the engagement surfaces 9 a, 10 a will split apart and the engagement between the magnet 9 and the anchoring means 10, and thus the engagement between the vehicle 60 and the exhaust extraction system 1 will be released. As the vehicle 60 continues to drive away, the nozzle 6 a will also release its engagement with the exhaust pipe 61. During this process, the resilient damping means 30 will be affected by the Force FD thus generated in the damping means.
  • This will result in a spring back of the exhaust suction hose 2 due to its resilience, the damping means 30 and the suspension of the system to e.g. a trolley. The spring back will cause a swinging motion of the system 1 which will be accommodated and absorbed by said resilient damping means 30.
  • Provided the system 1 should be disengaged from the vehicle manually, see FIGS. 5 a and 5 b, the operator grips the handle 50 of the coupling means 7 and applies a force FH in a direction out of the parting plane PP between the engagement surfaces 9 a, 10 a of the magnet 9 and the anchoring means 10. This will cause an angling a between the two surfaces 9 a, 10 a splitting the engagement surfaces.
  • Provided the handle 50 is arranged further away from the magnet 9 than the first connection point 11 a of the actuator means 20 to the coupling means 7, the lever LH formed by the handle 50 will be longer than lever L resulting from the cooperation between the actuator means 20 and the magnet 9, whereby the force FH required to manually release the engagement will be lower than that required to be generated by the vehicle driving away. Thus the system can be manually operated without the need of any considerable physical strength. Also, a damping means will efficiently accommodate swinging of the system when the operator releases the handle.
  • The above described embodiment of the exhaust extraction system comprises a damping means. It is to be understood that the automatic and manual operation of the system works without a damping means. However, a damping means is preferred, not at least as a safety measure in order to avoid any injuries to persons or the environment due to the spring-back effect of the exhaust suction hose caused by a release.
  • The system can comprise a safety coupling (not disclosed) adapted to release the engagement between a vehicle and a portion of the exhaust extraction system, provided releasing the engagement between the magnet and the anchoring means should fail. Such safety couplings are well known in the art and are not further discussed.
  • The permanent magnet has been described as one single item, however, it is to be understood that more than one magnet can be included with remained function.
  • It will be appreciated that the present invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiments. A number of modifications and variants are possible and the invention is consequently defined exclusively by the appended claims.
