A headband includes a flexible band, a metal strip mounted on the flexible band, and at least one interchangeable decorative ornament having a magnet. The headband is capable of producing multiple looks because of its ability to temporarily accept interchangeable decorative ornaments through magnetic attraction.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention generally relates to a headband. More specifically, the present invention relates to a headband that includes interchangeable decorative ornaments.
  • The use of headbands is well known in the prior art. Headbands hold a wearer's hair back and away from the face and eyes. Typically, the headband includes a flexible band dimensioned to fit the head of the user and a decorative ornament permanently attached to the flexible band. In recent years, the use of headbands as fashion accessories has rapidly increased. Headbands are being used during the day or night time. Unfortunately, having the decorative ornament permanently attached to the flexile band, the user is forced to purchase a different headband depending on the occasion.
  • As can be seen, there is a need to provide a headband capable of providing the user with different looks without having to buy several headbands.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In one aspect of the present invention, the headband includes a flexible band, a metal strip mounted on the flexible band, and at least one interchangeable decorative ornament having a magnet.
  • In another aspect of the present invention, the headband includes a flexible band, a metal strip mounted on the flexible band, at least one interchangeable decorative ornament having a magnet, a first coupling device placed on the flexible band, a second coupling device placed on the metal strip, and the first coupling device interlocking with the second coupling device to secure the metal strip to the flexible band.
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective front view of the headband according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention showing the headband on the head of the user;
  • FIG. 2 illustrates an exploded view of the headband according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention;
  • FIG. 3 illustrates a top view of the headband of FIG. 2 showing how a flexible band and a metal band are interconnected;
  • FIG. 4 illustrates a top view of the metal band according to the present invention;
  • FIG. 5 illustrates a cross sectional view of the headband of the present invention taken along line 5-5 in FIG. 2;
  • FIG. 6 illustrates a cross sectional view of the headband of the present invention taken along line 6-6 in FIG. 2; and
  • FIG. 7 illustrates a detailed view of the headband of FIG. 2.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
  • Various inventive features are described below that can each be used independently of one another or in combination with other features.
  • Broadly, embodiments of the present invention generally provide a headband capable of producing multiple looks by having the ability to temporarily accept interchangeable decorative ornaments through magnetic attraction.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2 illustrate a headband 10 according to the present invention. The headband 10 may include a flexible band 12, a metal strip 16 mounted on the flexible band 12, an interchangeable decorative ornament 14, and, optionally, a covering 24.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates the flexible band 12 according to the present invention. The flexible band 12 may add strength to the headband 10. The flexible band 12 may be made of a sturdy but flexible material. In one embodiment, the flexible band 12 may be made of plastic, metal, rubber, composite material, or polymer. In one embodiment, the flexible band 12 may be made of plastic. The flexible band 12 may be shaped to configure the head of the user. In one embodiment, the shape of the flexible band 12 may be rectangular, circular, semi-circular, square, or U-shape. A first coupling device 22 may be placed on both ends of the flexible band 12. The flexible band 12 may be made by an injection molding process.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates the metal strip 16 according to the present invention. The metal strip 16 may be made of a ferromagnetic material. In one embodiment, the metal strip 16 may be made of Iron (Fe), Nickel (Ni), Cobalt (Co), or Steel. In one embodiment, the metal strip 16 may be made of steel. The ends of the metal strip 16 may include a second coupling device 18. The second coupling device 18 may interlock with the first coupling device 22 of the flexible band 12 to secure the metal strip 16 to the flexible band 12. In one embodiment, the first coupling device 22 may be a slot and the second coupling device 18 may include tabs. In one embodiment, the tabs may be rounded, squared, tapered, pointed, or scalloped.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates a cross sectional view of the headband of the present invention taken along line 5-5 in FIG. 2. The metal strip 16 may be placed inside a cavity 20 on the flexible band 12. The size of the cavity 20 may depend on the size of the metal strip 16. The cavity 20 may help flush the metal strip 16 with the surface of the flexible band 12.
  • FIG. 6 illustrates how the first coupling device 22 interlocks with the second coupling device 18 to secure the metal strip 16 to the flexible band 12.
  • FIG. 7 shows that a decorative ornament 14 may be added to the headband 10. The decorative ornament 14 may include a magnet 28 permanently attached to one of its ends. The magnet 28 may be attracted to the ferromagnetic material of the metal strip 16 securing the decorative ornament into the headband 10. The decorative ornaments 24 may have the shape of a flower, a butterfly, a bow, a heart, a cartoon character, jewelry, gem stones, holiday figurines, buttons, numbers, letters, geometrical figures, picture holders, beads, animals, toy, star, feathers, pom-poms, or combination thereof.
  • A cover 24 may be optionally added on top of the metal strip 16 for aesthetical purposes. The cover 24 may optionally include an anti-skip surface 24 in one of its ends to assist in engaging the user's head. The cover may be made of fabric, cloth, leather, rubber or vinyl material.
  • In one embodiment, the flexible band 12 is made of ferromagnetic metal and the metal insert is omitted from the headband 12.
  • In one embodiment the metal strip 16 may be permanently attached to the flexible band 12. In one embodiment, the metal strip 16 may be glued onto the flexible band 12.
  • In one embodiment, the headband 10 may include a band comprised entirely of ferromagnetic material would have the ability to hold temporary interchangeable decorative ornaments.
  • In one embodiment, the flexible band 12 may be a belt.
  • In one embodiment, the flexible band may be a bracelet.
  • In one embodiment, the flexible band may be a necklace.
  • The headband 10 may be capable of conveying multiple looks by providing a headband having the ability to hold temporary interchangeable decorative ornaments. The headband 10 may also allow the user to use more than one ornament at a time and to easily add and remove ornaments to the headband while the headband remains firmly on the user's head.
  • It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
