Abstract

A golf club head includes a hollow head shell, a locating mount, and a tubular neck member. The head shell has a top, a sole, a heel, a toe, and a face. The top is provided with a first insertion hole. The locating mount is mounted at an inner side of the sole and includes a positioning concavity and a positioning hole. The neck member has a second insertion hole and is securely received inside the first insertion hole of the head shell and fastened to the positioning concavity of the locating mount at a bottom end thereof such that the first insertion hole communicates with the positioning hole. Accordingly, a shaft can be securely inserted into the second insertion hole and the positioning hole so as to be fastened with the head shell.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

1. Field of the Invention

The present invention relates generally to golf clubs, and more particularly to an improved golf club head.

2. Description of the Related Art

A conventional golf club head disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 5,042,806 includes an integrally-formed hollow tube member mounted at a side thereof in proximity of a heel thereof and running through the head from a top to a sole thereof for inserting and securing a shaft inside the tube member.

If the tube member of the golf club head is made by casting, the mass of the head will be subject to “deadweight” since unwanted casting material will exist at a side of the heel of the head. However, if the tube member is positioned farther away from the heel, the mass of the head will be more subject to “deadweight” at the side of the heel of the head. Accordingly, a position that a shaft is inserted into the head is restrictedly small such that the whole design of the head is confined.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The primary objective of the present invention is to provide a golf club head having an improved neck structure for inserting a shaft into alternative positions of the head so as to prevent from deadweight.

The foregoing objective of the present invention is attained by the golf club head, which is formed of a hollow head shell, a locating mount, and a tubular neck member. The head shell is composed of a top, a sole, a heel, a toe, and a face. The top is provided with a first insertion hole. The locating mount is protruded from an inner side of the sole. The neck member, which has a second insertion hole, is received inside the first insertion hole of the top and fastened to the locating mount at a bottom end thereof.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

Referring to FIGS. 1-2, a golf club head of a preferred embodiment of the present invention is composed of a [0010] head shell 10, a locating mount 12, and a neck member 20.
The [0011] head shell 10, which is hollow, is formed of a top 101 at a top side thereof, a sole 102 at a bottom side thereof, a heel 103 at a side of a predetermined insertion position for a shaft, a toe 104 at the other side of the predetermined insertion position, and a face (not shown). The top 101 of the head shell 10 is provided with a first insertion hole 11 at a predetermined position adjacent to a side of the heel 103.
The locating [0012] mount 12 is protruded upwards from an inner side of the sole 102 and positioned corresponding in location to the first insertion hole 11. The locating mount 12 is cylindrical and is recessed with a positioning concavity 121 at a top side thereof The positioning concavity 121 is provided with a positioning hole 122 at a bottom side thereof for running through the locating mount 12 toward the sole 102 of the head shell 10.
The [0013] neck member 20 is embodied as a substantially elongated tube member axially having a second insertion hole 22. The neck member 20 is inserted into the first insertion hole 11 at an end thereof and then embedded into the positioning concavity 121 of the locating mount 12, such that the second insertion hole 22 of the neck member 20 communicates with the positioning hole 122 of the locating mount 12. The neck member 20 is fixedly connected with an inner periphery of the first insertion hole 11 and the locating mount 12 by brazing.
A [0014] shaft 30, as shown in FIG. 2 as dotted lines, is inserted through the second insertion hole 22 of the neck member 20 and into the positioning hole 122 of the locating mount 12, thereby securing the shaft 30 and the head shell 10 with each other. Accordingly, manufacturers can alternatively position the first insertion hole 11 and the locating mount 12, and the head prevents from deadweight while the neck member 20 is mounted inside the head shell 10. In addition, the locating mount 12 is capable of stabilizing the neck member 20 rather than shaking while swinging the golf club.
It is to be noted that the [0015] neck member 20 can be made longer to be protruded out of the head shell 10 since the neck member 20 in the aforementioned preferred embodiment of the present invention is positioned in the same level with the top 101 of head shell 10 at a top end thereof so as to form a neckless head as a regular one. Moreover, the first insertion hole 11 of the head shell 10 can be alternatively disposed with a first planar surface (not shown) at the inner periphery thereof and the neck member 20 is also disposed with a second planar surface (not shown) at a position corresponding to the first planar surface (not shown), such that the neck member 20 can be well positioned in the head shell 10 while connected with each other to facilitate further processing procedure. In addition to brazing, the neck member 20 can be fixedly connected inside the head shell 10 alternatively by soft soldering or adhesives or rivets or others.

Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A golf club head comprising:

a hollow head shell including a top, a sole, a heel, a toe, and a face, said top having a first insertion hole;

a locating mount mounted at an inner side of said sole of said head shell; and

a tubular neck member having a second insertion hole and inserted into said first insertion hole of said head shell and fastened to said locating mount at a bottom end thereof.

2. The golf club head as defined in claim 1, wherein said locating mount having a positioning concavity for receiving the bottom end of said neck member.

3. The golf club head as defined in claim 1, wherein said locating mount having a positioning hole in communication with said second insertion hole of said neck member.

The golf club head as defined in claim 1, wherein said first insertion hole of said head shell has a first planar surface at an inner periphery thereof, and said neck member has a second planar surface at an outer side thereof corresponding in location to the first planar surface of said first insertion hole.

5. The golf club head as defined in claim 1, wherein said locating mount is integrally formed with said head shell.

6. The golf club head as defined in claim 1, wherein said neck member is connected with said head shell by brazing.
