Abstract

A head for a child's golf club includes a body with a face for striking a golf ball and a shank extending from the body. The shank is configured to be securely attached to a shaft of the golf club. A protective coating covers the head except the face to absorb the reactive force when striking a golf ball. The protective coating is a resilient, flexible material and is rubber in the preferred embodiment of the present invention.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention [0001]
  • The present invention relates to a head for a golf club, and more particularly to a head for a child's golf club that has a protective coating on the head. [0002]
  • 2. Description of Related Art [0003]
  • Conventional heads for golf clubs in accordance with the prior are mounted on one end of a shaft. There is no golf club in market designed specifically for young children. Small children usually use toy golf clubs that are made of light material or real golf clubs that are “cut down” from clubs for adults or are somewhat smaller in size as a junior set or the junior head. [0004]
  • However, these types of golf clubs have several disadvantages. [0005]
  • 1. The junior golf clubs are designed for children over eight years old so that the clubs can not be widely used. [0006]
  • 2. The metal head of the golf club may hurt the little golfer when using the club or playing if careless. [0007]
  • 3. The little golfer may sustain a sport injury due to the reactive force while striking the ball because children's skeletons have not fully developed. [0008]
  • The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the disadvantages of the conventional head for a golf club. [0009]
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • A head for a child's golf club in accordance with the present invention comprises a body with a face for striking a golf ball and a shank extending from the body. A protective coating covers the head except the face to absorb the reactive force when striking a ball to prevent children from sustaining sports injuries. [0010]
  • Further benefits and advantages of the present invention will become apparent after a careful reading of the detailed description with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.[0011]
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a head for a child's golf club in accordance with the present invention; [0012]
  • FIG. 2 is perspective cross sectional view of the head for a child's golf club in FIG. 1 when taking the line [0013] 2-2;
  • FIG. 3 is a bottom plan view of the head for a child's golf club in FIG. 1; [0014]
  • FIG. 4 is a perspective view of a second embodiment of the head for a child's golf club in accordance with the present invention; [0015]
  • FIG. 5 is a bottom plan view of the head for a child's golf club in FIG. 4; [0016]
  • FIG. 6 is a perspective view of a third embodiment of the head for a child's golf club in accordance with the present invention; and [0017]
  • FIG. 7 is a bottom plan view of the head for a child's golf club in FIG. 6.[0018]
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • With reference to the drawings and initially to FIGS. [0019] 1 to 3, a head for a child's golf club in accordance with the present invention comprises a body (10) with a face (11) for striking a golf ball and a shank (20) extending from the body (10). The shank (20) is configured to be securely attached to a shaft (not shown) of the golf club. A protective coating (30) covers the head except the face (11) to absorb the reactive force while striking a golf ball. The protective coating (30) is a resilient, flexible material and is rubber in the preferred embodiment of the present invention.
  • With reference to FIGS. 4 and 5, another embodiment of the head for a golf club in accordance with the present invention provides a protective cover for a wood, and with reference to FIGS. 6 and 7, yet another embodiment of the head for a golf club in accordance with the present invention provides a protective cover for a putter. [0020]
  • The head for a golf club in accordance with the present invention includes several advantages. [0021]
  • 1. The head of the golf club is safe and prevents children from being hurt when using or playing with the club because a resilient, flexible material such as rubber covers the hard head of the club. [0022]
  • 2. The protective coating of the head is made of resilient, flexible material that can absorb the reactive force when striking a golf ball to prevent little golfers from sustaining sports injuries. [0023]
  • 3. The head for a golf club designed specifically for children and can be used by golfers under eight years old so that the scope of using of the present invention is wider. [0024]
  • Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed. [0025]
