1 Claim.
My invention relates to a new and improved hosiery holder and display device.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a device of this type which can be simply and cheaply manufactured, and which can be made from a single sheet of heavy paper or similar cheap and bendable material.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of this type which shall display the welt or top of a stocking, While holding the stocking in compact form.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of this type which shall make it possible to display a large number of stockings in a small space.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of this type by means of which the stockings can be mounted so that they can be conveniently handled and shipped and displayed.
Another object of my invention is to provide a 29 device of this type that will display on the outside of the device the welt or top of the stocking by having part of the device on the inside of the stocking itself and that portion of the stocking not so displayed on the outside of the device,
folded on the inside of the device into a compact uniform package.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of this type that will fit any size stocking or hose and can be so constructed in size to hold from one to one dozen pairs.
Other objects of my invention will be set forth in the following description and drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment thereof.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing the completely set-up device.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the blank from which the device is made.
Figs. 3, 4 and 5 are plan views which illustrate the various operations in folding the blank and assembling it with the stocking, in order to set up the device.
Fig. 6 is a plan view of a blank, illustrating a different embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 7 illustrates the blank shown in Fig. 6 in the operative condition.
The device generally comprises a body portion 1, having aligned pairs of slits 2, said slits being located at the longitudinal edges of the body portion 1.
Said body portion is scored along the lines 3, 4, 5 and 6, so as to provide a holding tab 7a, upon which the welt of the stocking can be mounted. By folding the device along said score lines, a structure is produced which resembles an envelope or box, which is open at the sides thereof.
1933, Serial No. 655,726
When the member shown in Fig. 2 is folded along said score lines, the members 7 and 8 form the end walls of the device. The member 9 then forms a partial front wall, and said member 9 is provided with holding tabs 10, and said holding tabs 10 can be laced through the slits 2, in order to connect the front-wall member 9 to the body of the device.
As shown in Fig. 3, the welt portion of a stocking H can be slipped upon the tab 711. The remainder of the stocking can be neatly folded in several layers adjacent the welt, underneath said tab 7a, and the welt may cover all or a part of the tab 7a.
The device is then folded along the score lines 3 and 4, so that the folded part of the stocking is then underneath the tab 7a, and only the welt part is visible.
The member 9 is then folded over the stocking and over the free end of the tab 7a, and the connecting tabs 10 are laced through the slits 2, this being fully indicated in Fig. 1.
The completed device therefore is a structure similar to an envelope or a small box, the entire device being made from a single piece of thin bendable material, such as heavy paper, cardboard, or the like.
The member 9 holds in position the tab '7 and the stocking H, so that only the welt portion of the stocking is visible.
It is clear that the device is extremely simple to construct and to manipulate, and that it makes it possible to display, ship, and pack the stocking in very compact form.
Generally speaking, the device comprises a mount M, on which a portion of the stocking is mounted, and an auxiliary member 1, the stocking in folded form being held between the members 7a and 1.
If desired, the blank could be made from suitable transparent or translucent material, such as cellophane, or other cellulose material. Likewise, the mount 7a could be made of sufficient length (if desired), so as to fill all or a part of the stocking, in which case the mount 7a is folded together with the stocking, in order to enable the stocking in folded form to be located between the mount 7a and the auxiliary member 1.
My invention generally covers any device of this general type, as the details shown in the preferred embodiment, can be omitted and changed Without departing from the essential spirit of the invention.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, the blank comprises a mount or mount-tab 7a, and said device also comprises a rear end wall 7, and a front end wall 8.
In this embodiment, the top wall 20 of the device is provided with a slit 21, which may have the tapered shape shown in Fig. 6. The welt of the stocking is placed over the mount-tab 7a, and the remainder of the stocking is folded between the members 1 and 7a, in the manner previously described.
The length of each fold of the stocking may be approximately equal to the length of the tab 7a. The end of the tab is then inserted through the slit 21. Due to the tapered shape of the mounttab 7a, and the tapered shape of the slit 21, there is sufiicient frictional engagement to hold the parts in the position shown in Fig. 7.
This embodiment is in many respects superior to the one which has been previously illustrated since the device can be made more cheaply, and the assembly requires less time.
In both embodiments the stocking is held between the mount-tab 7a and the auxiliary member 1.
I claim:
A hosiery display device, said device having a body portion, a front end wall, and a rear end wall, said rear end wall having a mount-tab connected thereto, the front end wall having a top wall connected thereto, said top wall having a slit thereon, said mount-tab having the welt of a stocking located thereon and exposed to view, the end of said mount-tab being inserted into said slit, the remainder of the stocking being located below said mount-tab.
