This invention relates to double doors, and especially to an astragal or spring pressed weather strip and its springpressed .actuator. i One object of the invention is to eliminate d'ifliculties encountered with the ordinary astragal over the crack or opening between two door-members of a: double door, where the astragal or weather strip is fixed on one'of the door-members, and where the door-meniher that has-the astragal can not be closed while the door-member having-no vastragal is closed. In such ordinary construction, the
astragal is likely to be broken or defaced by $5 striking or being struck by a belt or latch of the lock of the door. I Y i Another object is to provide a double door with an astragal having yielding means to hold it out of the way ofthe door-member 29 which has no astragal thereon. 1
Another ob 'ect is to provide an effective spring-pressed means to automatically press the astragal in its weather-excluding position and to hold the door-members against rattling in consequence of the wind blowing against them.

5 and 6, when assembled, is mounted on the upper beam of the door-frame, and a si1nilar device is mounted onthe lower beainor door-sill, an opening 13 being provided in the threshold 14 to receive this lower actu ator, so the top of the latter is, substantially even with the top of the threshold. The v opening 13 also provides a clearance for the astragal to move into and out of engagement with the lower actuator.

A lower casing-member 16 and an upper casing member 17 are united by a bolt or fasteningniember 18, and provided with screwholes ihru which screws 19 may extend for holding them in place on the door-frame. A cam or pushing member 20 is provided with an elongated opening 21 thru whichthe securing member 18 extends forpermitting a limited sliding movement of the member 20 while securing it in the casing and in proper The pushing member has an arcuate or concave cam-face 22 against which an end portion of the astragal strikes when the door-member B is swung to its closing position, as illustrated by the broken lines in Fig. 4-. As the'door-member.
B-is forced to its fully closed position, the cam-face 22 automatically turns it against the pressure of its springs 12 until its weather-excluding surface lies flat against themner edges of the door-members,provided the member A is also closed, and is pushed thereagainst by springs which are suitably held within the casing. The pressure of these springs also serves to hold the doormembe rs pressed against their fastening means so they will not rattle as the wind blows against them.- Moreover, even if considerablewear should result from long use. of this device,
the spring-pressed device 15 will compensate for such wear, so the astragal will alwaysbe caused to eilectively close the crack between the door-members In the modified form of device shown in Fig. 7, the parts 16a and 20a may be cheaply and easily formed of blanks of sheet metal,
. and the same is true of the cover (not shown).
The springs 23a may have their ends seated around bosses 15b and 20b iormed by punch-' ing and depressing the side opposite thereto.
A rubber weather-strip 24 is shown in" Figs. 2 and 3, for closing the opening at the bottom of the door, and if desirable, this can be wide enough to cover the lower aetuator 15 or 15a; but I do not claim this as essential or a part of my invention, except in a broad'sense. Of course the free end of the strip 24 will yield to the weather strip or astragal 10 when'movin into the weatherexcluding position.
Although I have described this form of my invention specifically, I have no intention of limiting my patent protection to these exact details of construction and arrangement, for the inventionis susceptible of 1111-, merous changes within the scope of the 1nventive ideas. as implied and claimed. v The ends of the astragal may be provided with any suitable kind of ferrule or band 25 of metal or other suitable material to contact with the cam-faces and withstand wear while rubbing against the cam-faces, and the fer 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of two elements spaced from one another, a closure member hinged on one of said elements and adapted to swing lnto slightly spaced relation to the second one of said elements, a weather-strip hinged on said closure member and provided with means to yieldingly hold it'in a predetermined position, and a spring-pressed member having a cam-tace to engage with said weather-strip and to press it out of said predetermined position'and into a position for closing'the space between saidclosure member and the second one of said elements.

3. Ina device otthe character described, the combination of two elements spaced from one another, a closure member hinged on one of said-elements and adapted to swing into slightly spaced relation to the second one of said elements, a weather-strip movably secured on said closure-member and provided with means to yieldingly hold it in spaced relation to an adjacent edge of the closure member,a casing in fixed relation to'said element on which the closure member 'is hinged, a member slidable in said casing and having a cam-face to engage with said weather-strip forv moving it into. a position for covering said' adjacent edge and the adjacent edge of said second one of said elements, and spring-means to press said cam-face HARLEY M. r nnY.
