TIMPR OVEMENT m COMBINED CALENDAR AND WASHING-LIST.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No, 191,517, dated June 5, 1877; application filed April 12, 1877.

To all whom it may concern Be it know that I, JOHN G. OooMBs, of Boston, Suffolk county, Massachusetts, have invented a Compound Calendar and Washing- List, of which the following is a specification:

The purpose of my present invention is to combine on one sheet a calendar by which record of the day of the week and month, &c., may be kept, and a wash-list, so

called; by which combination I am enabled,

in addition to the calendar, to keep a record of the day of the week and month on which a given number of articles of clothing were sent to the laundry.

The drawing accompanying this specification represents a diagram of my invention.

In such drawing the upper part ofthe sheet A of paper on which the characters are printed is occupied by a monthly calendar of ordinary arrangement-that is to say, the days of the week are arranged in a vertical row, with the numerals opposite them, and the indicative of the month over such figures the calendar, as shown in the drawing, being arranged for the month of January, 1877.

The division-lines a a, &c., which separate the columns of numericals are continued to or nearly to the bottom of the sheet A, while to the left of such division-lines I print, upon the said sheet, a vertical list of articles of clothing, after the manner of washinglists in general, while the blank spaces 1) b, &c., be-

tween the lines a a, &c., below the calendar, are each headed by the words, No. of pieces.

The method of using my improvement is as follows: Suppose it is desired to send to the laundry three blankets on Wednesday the 10th day of January, I add before or after the word Wednesday a cross or other character to' distinguish this day from the others, and indicate the day of the week on which the articles were sent.

In the space b below the column of numerals containing the number 10, and opposite the word blankets, I write the word or figure three, which denotes} the number of blankets sent. Following up the column of numerals over the word three, until we arrive opposite Wednesday, we find the numeral 10, which denotes that Wednesday is the 10th day of the month. Thus, under the arrangement indicated, when the particular day of the week is once checked off, the column occupied by the number of pieces sent to the laundry will determine the particular day of the month on which the clothes were sent. This result is due'to the relative arrangement of the calendar and wash-list, the columns for the numbers of pieces being formed on the prolongation of the vertical divisional columns of the calendar.

In putting my invention upon the market I propose to bind it in a book, or otherwise secure a number of slips together, and to still further enhance the value of the invention I propose to add an advertisement to the back of each slip.

Though I have represented a monthly caldar at thehead of the sheet or slip A, I do not restrict myself in this respect, as a longer or shorter one may be employed.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A combined calendar and washing-list, in which the columns for receiving the figures indicating the numbers of pieces correspond in number with and are formed on the prolongation of the vertical divisional columns of the calendar, as shown and set forth.
