COLLAPBIBLE TOILET KIT v This invention relates to collapsible toilet casesand similar devices.

One object of this lnvention is to provide a device of the character described hav-' ing a case which is adapted to be opened up flat and having improved means for holding various articles in an upright position in the flat open position of the case with the latter acting as a base for said means."

Another object of the invention is to furnish a device of the nature set forth having side closure leavesinterconnected by a flat hin e portion, and a container normally dispose between said leaves and connected in an improved manner to said hinge portion Awithout the use of metallic fasteners such as rivets.. l

Another object of the invention-is to construct a device of the type mentioned having marginal flexible portions and detachable fastenin therefor together with improved supp emental article carrying and supporting means for the marginal portions.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of the class referred .to having relatively few and simple parts, and which is inexpensive to manufacture, neat in appearance, compact, durable, reliable, and convenient and 'efficient in use.

Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the specilication proceeds. i

With the aforesaid objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combinations and arrangements of arts hereinafter. described in their preerred embodiments, pointed out in the subjoined claims, and illustrated on the annexed drawing, wherein like parts are designated by the same reference characters throughout the several views.

The advantages of the invention as here outlined are realized when all of its' features and instrumentalities are combinedv m one and the same structure, but, useful than the whole.

It will be obvious to .those skilled in the art to which this invention ap`pertains, that the same may be incor rated in several different constructions. e accompanying drawing, therefore, is. submitted merely as showing the preferred exemplification of the invention.

The kit may be adapted to hold articles of any required type, as, for example, combs, brushes, razors, maninkring implements, soap containers, and the For'purposes of illustration, the device 10 may1 include 'a case having parallel leaves 11 and 12 that may be integrally connected together by `a flatv hinge portion 13. The elements 11, 12 and 13 may be made of a one piece elongated sheet 14 of stiff material such as cardboard, com osition material, or the like, having paral el fold portions or lines at 15 extending transversely thereof. Extending along the hinge portion including the fold portions 15, a reenforcement strip of material 16 may be provided secured to the sheet 14 as by adhesive.' A cover portion 17 which may consist of a sheet of leather or other liexible material may extend yover the outside of the sheet 14 and the'reenforcement 16. A ilexible Vlining 18 of fabric or thin leather may extend along the inside face of the sheet 14. A second reenforcement strip 19 as of fabric or the likek may extend along and from a part of the hinge portion 13,

said strip being confined between the fold regions and overlying the adjacent portion of the lining 18. The reenforcement 19 may be secured in place by lines of stitching at 20 extendin Vthrough the outer reenforcement 16. T e external covering 17, which is a plied subsequent to they stitch` ing 20, and) the lining 18 may be continu- ,ously secured to the stiff sheet 14 in any manner well known in the art, as by the employment of adhesive.

Extending along the outer edges of the leaves 11, 12 are similar marginal portions 21, which may preferabl consist of any flexible strip material suc as leather, that is shaped with fold portions at 22 at the corners of the leaves, so as to provide top and side closure portions 23, 24. These may be continuousl secured to the inner sides of the respective leaves 11, 12, as by lines of stitching 25 assing through the leaves and adjacent e( ges of the marginal flaps, whereby the latter may be folded toward each other along lines 26. At the hinge portionl, the side closure elements 24 may have their ends 26a: infolded along diagonal gusset lines 27, at one end of the case, and at the opposite end of the case, their end portions 28 may be infolded along diagonal lines 29 and terminate at 30 at a substantial distance from the adjacent end of the case. For bringing together the marginal flex ible portions edge to edge and releasably interconnecting the same, a slide fastener is preferably utilized, the same having series ofrconventional hooks 33 suitably secured to the edges oi' the marginal portions for interlocking as shown in Fig. 1, by a slide 34, that may be actuable by a chain 35. When the case is opened up flat as in Fig. 4, the slide 34 is movable inward to lie in the notch formed by the lines 29, so as to permit a suicient separation of the side closure portions 24 for complete opening of Vfhen the latter is closed, the slide lies at the opposite end of the case at `36.,

Mounted on the hinge portion 13, independently of the leaves 11, 12, is a holding means or container 37 of any desired shape and construction. For example, the con (einer 37 may be of rectangular form, open at the top 38 thereof, and the same may consist of stiff pa er or pressed composition material. It will be notedthat the end Wall '40 of the container 37 is more remotely spaced from the adjacent end of the case, than the end wall 41, in order to clear the notch 29, 29 and afford suilicient spacing to receive the slide 34. The height of the container 37 may be made as required, but is'preferably somewhat less than half of the height of the case. Hence the container is upstanding with all parts thereof easily accessible when the case is opened up with the leaves 11, 12 and hinge 13 lying fiat on a table or other su port. f

hile the container 37 is intended to receive various elongated or cylindrical articles such as a stick of shaving soap and the receptacle therefor, a shaving rush, and the like, which may be positioned in upstanding sidey by side osition in the container, .other means may provided for conveniently holding various accessories on the leaves 11, 12. Thus strap elements 42, 43 may be secured to the respective leaves 11, 12 as by spaced lines of stitching 44 and 45 to provide openings therebetween for removably receivin articles such as combs, brushes, and theglike, which are 'thus held snugly 1n place along the inside faces of the leaves and preferably above the container 37. The various articles that may rest on the leaves 11, 12 inflat open position` of the case, serve to hold down the leaves, the latter acting as a base for ade uatel maintaining the the closed position of the device, the container 37 acts as reenforcement between the leaves 11 and 12, and permits the full utilization of space that would otherwise be wasted.'

In Figs. 6 and 7 is shown a modification of the invention, which may be exactly similar to that hereinbefore described except that means includin an additional leaf such as 46 may be provi ed extending between a leaf 12 and 'an adjacent sidewall of the container 37, and said leaf having a stien- 19 and the bottom wall of the container 37.

The strength of t e snap -fastener may be made sufficient for this purpose, or it may be coordinated so as to open and permit a downward spring of the stiffenei` element if thc k compressive force becomes excessive. An article holding meansf such as the strap 53 may be connected to the leaf 46 at spaced points 54.

In opening' the case, the slide fastener may be released, after which the snap fastener 52 may be opened so that the device lies in the flat position as shown in Figi 7, with the leaf 46 resting on the leaf 12 within the flexible marginal portions. However, if the compartment is alone to be opened, the snap fastener 52 may be allowed to remain closed, in which case the leaf 46 and its stiffener portion 47 may form an enclosure for the container 37 for retention of the contents thereof, especially when the device rests on a side on the leaf 11, with the container 37v openinghorizontally.
