Description

1932- J. KUNZ ET AL CLOSURE STRIP FOR WINDOWS Filed Nov. 28, 1931 INVENTORS J01! jiuztz Joseph .Zlammer ATTORNEY VIII /IIIZ H .J R -L... q. x
Patented Nov. 1, 1932 UNETED STATES JOHN KUNZ AND JCSEPH DAMMEB, OF RICHMOND HILL, YORK CLOSURE STRIP FOR XVINDOWS Application filed November 28, 1931.
This invention relates to improvements in closures, particularly intended for tightly closing the space between the meeting edges of an upper and lower window sash to prea vent air, moisture, or insects from entering a room at this place.
It is the principal object of our invention to provide a closure for windows having wooden sash frames to be permanently selo cured thereto by means of screws or the like.
Another object of our invention is the provision of a closure strip for windows with metal sashes which may be removably held to the sash by means of a clamping device.
A further object of our invention is the provision of a closure for the meeting edges of upper and lower window sashes of simple and inexpensive construction, yet durable and highly eflicient in use.
A still further object of our invention is the provision of a rubber pad held in a suitable frame and attached to the upper window sash to effectively prevent the entrance of dust or snow and to avoid rattling, and which can readily be exchanged by any one also those not skilled in the art without great effOrt.
These and other objects and advantages of our invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a window equipped with a closure strip constructed according to our invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional end elevation of a metal window frame, equipped with a closure strip and its holder, constructed according to our invention.
Fig. 3 is a perspective detail View of a window strip for metal window frames, and its holder.
As illustrated in Figure 1, to the lower edge of the wooden frame 10, of the upper window sash 11, is attached by means of screws or the like a strip 12 of suitable material in which is held a rubber pad 13 or the like adapted to engage closely the frame of Serial No. 577,734.
the lower sash 14 to prevent the entrance of I cold air, moisture and insects.
In the form of our invention illustrated in Figures :2 and 8, a rubber pad 15 is exchangeably held'in its frame 16 by means of a screw 1'7, which passes also through a plate 18 equipped with an upstanding ear or tongue 19 having an opening through which passes the shaft 20 of a screw having an outer operating head 21, and an inner circular plate 22 adapted to engage the outer face of the frame 10 of the upper sash 11, while an up standing flange 12 on plate 18 engages the inner face of said frame.
In operation, if wooden frames are used for the window sashes the frame 12 with its rubber pad is secured by means of screws to the lower edge of the upper sash so that the rubber pad 13 will closely engage the upper part of the frame of the lower sash 14 and 7e prevent the entrance of air, moisture, dust and insects at this point.
vVith metal window sashes, a holder 18 shown in Figures 2 and 3, is used to clamp the frame 16 for the rubber pad 15 to the lower frame bar of the upper window sash by means of the screw 20.
It will be understood that we have disclosed the preferred forms of our invention only as examples of the many possible ways to practically construct our invention, and that we may make such changes therein as come within the scope of the appended claims without departure from our invention.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A closure for casement windows to pre vent air, moisture, dust, and insects to enter a room through the space between the upper and lower window sashes at their meeting point, comprising a holder, a rubber pad exchangeably held therein, and means to removably clamp said holder and pad to the lower part of the upper window sash frame.
2. A closure for the space between the upper and lower window sashes of metal frame windows comprising a rubber pad, a holder for the same, a plate to which said holder and pad are secured, and clamping means to removably clamp both, holder and pad to the upper window sash. e
3. A closure for the space between the upper and lower frame bars of the lower and upper window sashes; of metal windows at their meeting point comprising a rubber pad, a holder for the same, and a bracket to which pad and holdez are secured, perforated ears on said bracket at its outer side and an upstanding flange on said bracket on its inner side, a clamp screw passed through the perforation in saidear and having an inner circular late to engage the outer face of the lower ar of the upper window sash frame while said flange engages the inner faces of said frame to firmly hold the closure in place.
Signed at New York, iii the county of New York, and State of New York, this 27th day of November, A. D. 1931.
