Description

May 24, 1932- A. G. KROENKE COMBINED GLAZED AND SCREEN DOOR Filed July 3, 1930 Patented May 24, 1932 UNITED STATES ADOLPH G. KBOENKE, OF FAIRIIBAULT, MIJFNESOTA COMBINED GLAZED AND SCREEN noon.
Application filed July 3,
This invention relates to doors having displaceable panels and has for its object to provide such a door having a panel that is mounted thereon for opening and closing movements and provided with means for holding the same open independent of the door and permit said door to be opened or closed in respect to the panel. Said invention further provides a door having a glazed panel and a screen panel.
To the above end, generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate the invention, like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a fragmentary elevation showing a wall structure having a door opening in which the combined glazed and screen door is mounted with its glazed panel held open; and
Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, with some parts shown in different positions by means of broken lines.
The numeral 3 indicates a wall structure having a door opening 4 in which a door 5 is hinged for horizontal swinging movement. This door 5 has a large panel opening 6 for a reticulate panel 7 and a glazed panel 8 and which panels are applicable to opposite sides of the door 5 and have rabbeted frames which seat within the panel opening 6 and against the faces of the door 5. The reticulate panel 7 is secured to the door 5 by a plurality of screws and screw eyes 9.
The glazed panel 8 is hinged to the door 5, as indicated at 10, and it is important to note that the-door 5 and glazed panel 8 are hinged at the same edge. Turn buttons 11 are provided for holding the glazed panel 8 closed.
A flexible fastener 12 which, as shown, is a hook and eye, is provided for holding the glazed panel 8 open and at the same time permit opening and closing movements of the door 5. The hook of this fastener 12 is secured to the wall 3 and the cooperating eye is secured to the panel 8. This fastener 12 1980. Serial No. 465,543.
acts as a flexible link and permits a limited edgewise movement of the panel 8 as well as a hinged movement thereof in respect to the door 5 during opening and closing of said door, as indicated by broken lines in Fig. 2.
By releasing the hook of the fastener 12 the glazed panel 8 may be closed and held closed by the turn buttons 11. While the fastener 12 is secured to a wall that is in the plane of the door opening 4 it will work equally as well when secured to a wall that extends at right angles or at any other angle to said door opening.
Obviously, the glazed door may be opened or closed, at will, and when open held so as to not interfere with the opening and closing of the door 5.
The combined glazed and screen door has all of the advantages of two doors without the objectionable feature of having to change the same with the seasons and has a great advantage in that the glazed door may be opened and closed as the temperature changes or at will.
What I claim is:
The combination with a wall structure having a door opening, of a door for the door opening hinged to the wall structure and having a panel opening, a panel for the anel opening hinged to the door at its hinged edge portion, and a bar pivotally attached at one end to the wall structure and at the other end pivotally and detachably connected to the panel for holding the panel open and permitting the door to be opened or closed.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ADOLPH G. KROENKE.
