Description

Jan. 112, 1932. p DwYER 1,840,621
' SUSPENSORY AND THE LIKE Filed Dec. 19, 1930 I [.VVENTOR:
Patented Jun. 12, 1932 rm! 2. pwnm, or rmmmnnrnm, PENNSYLVANIA SUSPENSORY AND THE LIKE Application filed December 19, 1980. Serial No. 503,861.
This invention relates to suspensories or so-called jock straps, having for its object the provision of a novel jockey strap particularly designed and constructed to remain in correct position upon the person of the wearer while maintaining the shirt or undergarment in snug, unwrinkled fashion to the body.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a comparatively simple attachment or assembly which may either be sewn or secured to a conventional jock or embodied in the said jock-strap as a component part thereof.
Another object is to provide a suspensory with means adapting the article to be attached to the shirt in order to maintain the latter trimly and unwrinkled during exercise while providing a double support for the suspcnsory itsel Additional objects and advantages residing in the construction, arrangement, and adaptation of parts will appear more fully in the details hereinafter set forth when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view of my invention inposition upon a wearer preparatory to attaching the straps or supports'to the girdle of the device or the shirt of the wearer;
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the invention in operative position with the straps secured to the shirt and the girdle;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevational view of the invention in operative position with the straps secured to the shirt and the girdle;
Fig. 4c is a front elevational view of my invention as it appears when removed frm the wearer;
lig. 5 is a bottom plan view of the device; an
Fig. 6 is a sectional View, partly in elevation, with parts of an attached shirt or garment broken away.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentaL ities as herein shown and described.
In the drawings, wherein similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the preferred form of the invention, A designates ajock strap or suspensory embodying my invention which comprises a band or girdle 11 to which are secured the members 12, 13 joined at their lower ends to the front flap 14, which latter is also secured at the upper end thereof to the girdle 11. The details so far described are conventional to jock straps and form no part of the present invention aside from the combination recited.
The two straps 15, 16 shown in Figs. 1, 4, and 5, which are arranged in crossing relation as at 17, are suitably secured to the bottom of the junction point of the flap 1t and the members 12, 13. The ends 18, 19, 20, and 21 of the straps are provided with clips 22 provided with slots 23 communicating with widened portions 24 which receive studs 25,
26, 27 28 suitably fastened 'on cloth tabs 20 stitched or otherwise secured to the girdle 11 for a purpose hereinafter appearing. Adjacent the ends 20 and 21 of the straps 15, 16 a strip of cloth 30 is secured which aids in maintaining the ends 20 and 21 in spaced relation. s clearly disclosed in Fig. 3, the longer pair of straps 18, 19 is adapted to extend from the crotch of the wearer diagonally across the buttocks of the wearer, being secured to the studs 25, 28 at the rear of the girdle 11; while the shorter pair of straps 20 and 21, as shown in Fig. 2, are adapted to pass convergingly upward to the studs 26, 27 on which they are removably supported in the well known manner. By further inspection of Figs. 2 and 3, and also as shown in Fig. 6, it will be seen that the shirt 31 of the wearer may be worn over my jock strap in which case, as in the present instance, the clips 22 will be engaged with the studs 25, 26, 27, and 28 throughthe fab 1013 ric of the shirt. In this manner not only is the suspensory or jock strap itself maintained more securely upon the person of the wearer, but the shirt or other garment, inner or outer, will be kept from riding up or wringling while in use or While athletic sports are being indulged in. This is an important feature since, as is well known, conventional jock straps are very apt to be' dislodged, particularly during violent exercise, and moreover they do not provide means for preventing the usual untidy appearance presented by the shirt or outer garment of the wearer which ride up and frequently protrude over the top of the trousers or breeches.
' Both shirt and jock strap are therefore, by
my invention, maintained in neat, correct position by the comparatively simple means employed.
If desired the assembly, which includes the straps 18, 19, 20, 21, the clips and the studs engaged therewith, may be manufactured as a separate unit which may be secured by stitching, an eyelet, etc., to the bottom of the conventional jock strap. However, I preferably manufacture my suspensory as a complete article in the form illustrated, that is, with the straps, clips, and studs mentioned as a component part of the invention. It will be observed that the invention may be manufactured at a triflin cost over the conventional jock strap, an that, in view of its simplicity, it may be attached in a few moments to the said jock strap without any change or reor anization of the latter.
I am aware t at the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and I therefore desire the present embodiment to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, reference being had to the appended claims rather than to the foregoing description to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device of the character stated, a girdle, a pair of main straps having their lower ends secured to each other and having their upper ends secured to substantially opposed points on said girdle, a front flap secured at its bottom end to the lower ends of said straps and being ada ted to be suitably secured to the front 0 said girdle at its upper end, a plurality of studs alon the periphery of said girdle, a pair of auxiiary intersecting straps secured at their intersection to the lower ends of said straps, and a plurality of clips on the free ends of said straps adapted to engage said studs.
2. In a device of the character stated, a girdle, a pair of main straps having their lower ends secured to each other and having their upper ends secured to substantially opstraps.
FRANK P. DWYER.
