IMPROVEMENT IN MUSTACHE-GUARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 183,673, dated October '24, 1876; application filed August 5,1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES S. HORTON, of Jamestown, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mustache Protectors; and I do hereby declare that the fol-' lowing is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 shows the invention applied to a drinking-vessel. Fig. 2 shows the device bottom side up.
In its construction I take a piece of spring sheet-brass, or other suitable metal, and cut out a blank with dies, in shape as shown in the drawings, to make the main plate A suitable-to form hooks O G and lips as w w as. Another die cuts out blanks B B, which are held in position by the lips, as shown, and may be moved in or out to adapt the device to any desired size, and has the ends turned over to form hooks to catch over the edge of the vessel, as may be seen in Figs. 1 and 2. To
further assist in grappling on the cup, the whole device is made a little concave, so as to fall below the edge line of the cup or vessel to which it is attached, and if the slides are ever found to move too easily it may be properly remedied by taking them out and giving them a little more bend.
It is thus shown that, for a few cents, I am enabled to manufacture a useful article, and one that will meet the wants of those wearin g this appendage-a mustache.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A mustache guard consisting of the plate A, having books 0 O and lips 00 a." a x, or their equivalent, in combination with the sliding plates B B, having books on their outer ends, all constructed substantially as described and set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own invention I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
