CLOSER FOR GOLLAPSIBLE TUBES Filed Feb. 28, 1931 F. SZn/rz im@ Patented y Dec. l, 1931 FREDERICK STANTON, F GRAND MERE, QUEBEC, CANADA CLOSER FOB COLLAIPSIBLE TUBES Application led February 28, 1331. 'Serial No. 519,125.
This invention relates to collapsible tubes for tooth paste, shaving cream and the like, and has for one of its objects to provide a novel closure for a tube of this character which shall embody a cap which cannot be removed from the tube and cannot therefore become lost, and which will prevent waste of the contents of the tube and keep the contents clean and prevent the access of air thereto.
The invention has for a further object to provide a closure of the character stated which shall be simple and capable of being applied to a tube without requiring any expensive changes in the method o manufacturing the tube, and which may be made of metal or any other suitable material.
`lWith the foregoing and other objects in view, the nature of which will appear as the description proceeds, the inve-ntion consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a viewin side elevation of the upper portion of a collapsible tube equipped with a closure constructed in accordance with my invention, the closure being shown inl opened position.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on the plane indicated by the line 3 3 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 3 with the closure in tube sealing position.
Referring in detail to the drawings, 1 designates the bod 2 the breast and 3- the neck of a collapsi le tube for tooth paste, shaving cream and the-like. In accordance yond the wall 'of the neck. A sleeve 7 isrotatably mounted upon the neck 3 between the u per end of the breast 2 of the tube and the ange 6 of the plug 5, the breast and with my invention, the neck 3 is closed at flange serving to hold the sleeve against any axial movement on the neck. The sleeve 7 is provided with an opening 8, and it is adapt ed to be turned on the neck 3 to move its opening into and out of re istration with the opening 4 ofthe neck; he sleeve opening 8 is larger than the neck opening et in order to permit the free passage of the contents of the tube through these openings y when they are in registration. The sleeve 1s ce provided at its upper end with an annular flange 9 which extends radially beyond the flange 6 of the plug 5, and which rovides means throughthe medium of w ich the sleeve may be turned to move its o ening 8 c5 into and out of registration with ing 4 of the neck 3.
To' adapt a collapsible tube for the application thereto of my improved closure, it is only necessary to rovide the neck 3 of the im tube with the radia discharge o ening 4, and screw thread the inner wall of tlrie up r portion of the neck. After the sleeve 7 as been applied to the neck 3, the .plug 5 is applied to the neck in order to secure the sleeve "15 against removal from the neck and thus pre vent the loss of the same. The sleeve 7 has a snug fit on the neck 3, and in view thereof the' contents of the tube will be protected from the air and will be kept in a clean state. to When it is desired to withdraw some of the tooth aste, shaving cream or the like from the tube, the sleeve 7 is turned through the medium of the flange- 9 in order to register its opening 8 with the neck opening 4, and 85 after the desired quantity has been withdrawn from the tube the sleeve is turned to move its opening out of registration with the neck opening. As the closure consists merely of the plug 5 and sleeve 7, it is of very 90 simple construction, may be manufactured at a comparatively low cost, and may be readily applied to the neck 3 of thetube. As the sleeve 7 has a snug tit on the necki3, it will be llleld against accidental turning on the nec While I have described the principle of the invention, together with the structure which I now consider the referred embodiment u thereof, it is to be un erstood that the Struct e openture shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made, when deeisfed7 es fall Within the scopo of the nvenien es claimed.
What is claimed is A collapsible tube having e neck @weide .1 with a radial discharge epenn e, e sleeve mounted on the neck and roved with a, radial opening and provide( al; is upper end Wih an outwardly diened annuler enge, the sleeve being adaped'to be turned through the medium of its flange to move its opening into and ou of regisis'ltion with she neck opening, and a plug screw-threadedly engaged in the upper end of the neck and provided with an annule;` lie-Liege extendin radially beyond the neck and eontecting Wit the upper end o the sleeve to maintenu the sleeve on the neck, the Bange of the sleeve projecting radially beyond the ange of the plug to permit it to be ifeadily gl'asped.
ln testimony whereof l hereunto affix my signature.
FREDERICK STNTGN.
