Description

Oct. 13, 1931. J. GABLER I WEFT HOLDING DEVICE Filed Nov. l0, 1927 .7n ven Zar @wdw Patented Oct. 13, 1931 Y UNITED STATES JOHANN GABLER, OF ETTLINGEN, GEIBNIIANYr WEET HOLDING lgoiwrcn Application led November 10, 1927, Serial No. 232,397, and in Germany November 16, 1926.
hand advisable in order to obtain selvedges` Vwhich are not too wide. This object is perfectly attained, according to the present invention by holding the `weft end inthe shed by pressing together the warp threads until the beating up of the weft.
The invention is more particularly described and shown, by Way of example, in the accompanying drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a side elevation, y
y Fig. 2 a top plan view and Fig. 3 a part elevation in enlarged scale. When the loom is Working, the weft 1 is inserted double up tothe middle of the shed and cut through as close to the edge 2 as possible and at the moment when the slay 3 is in the extreme backward position.
Previous to the cutting action and previous to the slayreaching its extreme backward position (position shown in full lines in Fig.
1), a slotted or fork-shaped slide 4 is pulled forward over the weft 1 by means of a flexible strap 5, for instance of leather or the like, which latter is fixed with its one end to the slay carrier by means of a screw 7 and with its other end on the regulating screw 6. On the regulating screw 6, which is screwed with its externally threaded end into the internally threaded rear portion of a guide piece 11, are slidably mounted on its remaining Y smooth cylindrical part, as a whole, the rear portion 4a of the slide 4, an intermediate disk of suitable material 4b, the onel end of the leather strap 5 and a centrally bored fixation Y screw 6a, which latter carries the end of the 4Q leather strap and the intermediate disk to be screwed with its externally threaded end into the internally threaded rear portion 4a of the slide 4. y
The operation is as follows Suppose the slay 3 travelling backwards, e. g. away from the slide (position shown in full lines in Fig. 1), the strap 5 will pull the slotted slide 4 over weft 1 as the one end of said strap is fixed to the slay-carrier and the other end thereof to the displaceable slide 4.l Simultaneously said slotted slide 4 grips, with its slotted portion, over the warp ends 8 and 9 (Fig. 3) whereby the weft 1 is securely held in its position. The backward movement of the slide 4 is limited by the rear portion of the slide butting against the supportingand guide piece 11, whilst its forward movement is limited by the head of the regulating screw 6 and forward travel of the slay-carrier 3.
' When the slay carrier 3 returns to the position shownin Fig. 2 in dotted lines, the reed 10 will push back the slide 4 and thus release the weft thread 1 and the warp threads 8 and 9. This action will take place as long as the loom is working.
1. In combination with gripper weaving looms, la weft holding device comprising a slay carrier, a slay, a reed, a guide piece suitably mounted on a support, a regulating screw with an externally threaded end portion screwed into the internally threaded rear portion of said guide piece the remaining portion of said screw being smooth, a slotted slide free-movably mounted in said guide' piece, the rear portion of said slide provided with an internal thread being mounted on the regulating screw, an intermediate disk mounted on said regulating screw, a flexible strap suitably fixed with its one end to the slay carrier and with its other end on the regulating screw, a centrally bored fixation screw slidably mounted on said regulating screw and carrying the one end of said strap and the intermediate disk, an externally threaded smallend portion of said fixation n screw screwed into the internal thread of I the rear portion of thel slide so as to slide, to 'and fro as a whole, on the smooth portion of Y the regulating screw, which latter may regu- Y Y late the 4degree of movement of said slide by V.being tightened or untightened. l Y e 2. In Combination with gripper weaving looms, a weft holding device as describedy inl vClaim l, whereby the slotted slide grips at its v backwards motion, due to a pullof the strap imparted -ito :said f slide, simultaneously over fthe frontwveftthread and overthesfrt 'two 2 I n I:

In testimony whereof I affix my signature. n JOHANNG'BEER.
