This invention relates to certain novelties used in the decorating of lamp posts, particularly electric light poles. I
The leading object of the present invention may be said to provide a novel arrangement, combination, and connection of parts in which both flags and pennants or streamers may be used for decorative purposes upon the lamp post.
A further object is to provide a metal structure which is relativelylight andwhich may be stamped out of sheet metal, thus providing a very simple, neat appearing, and inexpensive arrangement of parts.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a device of the character under consideration which may be adjustably attached to electric light poles and which may be readily taken down or left upon the posts as desire A still further object of the present invention is to provide a structure in such manner that the flag stafi's may be readily inserted and removed by very simple attachment means while the supports are in position upon the lamp posts.
Other and further objects not at this time appearing will be hereinafter set forth.
, The invention consists of the novel construction hereinafter described and finally claimed.
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection. with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which: Fig. 1, is a fragmentary view in elevation of a lamp post equipped with the flag holder of the invention.

For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings several forms thereof which are at presw cut preferred by.me,since the same have been v found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Referring to the drawings, the reference numeral 1 designates the post which may be a lamp post, a pole for supporting electric wires, or any other type of pole which are usually cylindrical. Arranged to be clamped around the pole 1 is aplurality of arms 2 for supporting theflag staffs 3. The arms 2, of which three are shown in the drawings, carry which are arranged to beclamped around a postl by means. of bolts. 5. This is very clearly-seen in Fig. 2. The plates lare provided with flanges 6 for accommodating the bolts 5. Thelplates 4:. andflanges 6 are arranged in a perpendicular manner Whereas the flag stafi'armsare, arranged at an inclination. The outer ends of the flag staff arms 2 each carries a cross arm for supporting a pennant or the like. j g

inturned ends 8 which engage the semi-circular plate 4, see Fig. 5, and the upper and lower rims of the plate 4: are outwardly flanged as at 9, and the flag stafi' arms 2' are so arranged that their flanges 8 abut against the flanges 9 of theplate 4. [This provides a very light but rigid structure which isdesirablein case or" high winds. The outer end of each flag stafi arm 2 is apertured horizontally to receive a bolt 10, theouter end of which is provided with a butterfly nut 11 andthe inner end of which is provided with aneye 12. The outer end of each cross arm 7 is slotted as at 19 so that a halyard 20, to which is attached a pennant, may be employed. This is useful in running up pennants to the cross arms and then securing the halyards to the post itself.
In lieuof the flag stall securing arrangement shown in Fig. 5, I may provide in the arm 2 an aperture 21' provided with prongs 22. In using the flag stafi the same is forced through aperture 21 and through the slot 14 and; the stafl then slightly-moves about its vertical axis so that the prongs 22 engage the wood of the flag staff and securely holds the flag in place. It is sometimes desirable to adjust the device around the lamp post or other pole, and to this end I provide the construction, shown in Figs. and 11. In this case each flag staff supporting arm 2' is provided with a-semicircular plate 23, which plates overlap one another. These plates 23 are each apertured as at 2 1 so that bolts 25 may be used-to adjust these plates with respect-to one another; as
clearly seen in Fig. 11. The apertures 24am 7 arranged at an'inclination with respectto the plates. Thus, adjustment maybe made to take'care ofpoles of varying diameters.

. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a device of the character stated, means to be clamped around a pole, a flag staff supporting arm extended from said means, said arm being of thin metal and of -V-shaped cross section and having inturned vertically disposed ends, means for supporting said flag staff with respect to said arm, and a horizontally arranged cross arm carried by said staff supporting arm at right angles thereto to support a pennant.
2. In a device of the character stated, means to be clamped around a pole, a flag staff supporting arm extended from said means, said arm being of thin metal and of V-shaped cross section,.means for supporting said flag 'stafi with respect to said arm,and a horizontally disposed cross arm carried by said staff supporting arm for supporting a pennant, said cross-arm being of V shaped crosssection. -WILLIAM F.
