Description

Patented Dec. 30, 1930 AIJMTED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN A. GEROW AND' ALFRED C. CANNON, OF EL SEGUNDO, CALIFORNIA i FLAeroLn HOLDER Application. mea August 11',- 192s.V serial No. 298,914.
This invention relates to flag pole holders,
vention contemplates the use of a band adapted to encircle a pole with a quick detachable' means to permit the band to separate and like- Wise to tightly secureV said band about the whlch band is provided with ya plurality of pole when in position of service,
An object of the invention is to provide a lo clamp 'so formed and constructed asto permit ready adjustment of a band about an obj ect.
In practicing the invention, we may prof vide aband adapted to have its ends overlap and which band may be provided with a series .15 of spaced perforations. Clamping means comprising a two-part member is adapted to A be secured to the band at any determined po-V sition, one of said clamping members being -adjustably received within certain of the se-` lected perforations, while the other member of said clamping means is adapted to cooperate with the rst member to either tighten the band about an object or to release said band from said object.
Other objects include a device of the character stated which is simple of construction, lnexpenslve to manufacture, and generally superior.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel and useful provision, formation, construction, association, and relative arrangement of parts, members and features, all as shown in a certain embodiment in the accompanying drawing, described generally, and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 1s an elevation of a flag pole holder incorporating the invention, said flag pole `4g holder being mounted upon a pole, such as an electric light pole or the like,
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail of the improved clamping means,
Figures 3 and et are sectional views on an enlarged scale and showing the clamping means in open and closed positions, respectively, and
Figure 5 illustrates the clamping means in open position. Y Referring now with particularity to the V12 of the lever.
drawing, the pole such' as an electric light pole, is designated4 by A, and the improved clamping means by B. The clamping means B is adapted to cooperate with a band a. This band is adapted to encircle the pole A withvthe ends thereof normally overlapping, as illustrated in Figures 3,- 4, and 5, and
transverse spaced perforations 1.` A flag pole bracket o which includes a segmentall `'plate 2 is provided with-one or more outstanding studs 8. A loop L and a socket 5 may be utilized in conjunction with lthe bracket As shown, thefflag pole 6 is received through the loop and within the socket 5, whereby the agpole is held lat an angularity relative to the pole `-A. It is quite obvious that the positionv of said bracket o relative to the pole A can be regulated in accordancewith the vposition of the studs 3 relative to the band a, and particularly the perforations 1 of said band. 'After the selected number of brackets o have been placed in position of adjl'stment relative to said band, the clamping means B may be 75 brought into operation. This clamping meansv B comprisesy two member c and d, the 'member c including a plate which is secured in any suitable manner, such as by passing studs vthrough ,certain perforations which pin carries a lever 11. This lever is provided with a curved cam head 12. The member' d includes a plate,`one end of which is odset,y as shown at 15, whereby'such end 90 at the offset portion may be passed through one of the perforations 1 of the band so that the said plate willl have parts thereofl lyingon both sides of said band a. Such plate is likewise provided with a stud 16 95 adapted to be :received in one of the perforations of the band. A curved head 17 is provided on the plate d which curved head is adapted to cooperate with the camphead outward position as illustrated ingFigure When in this position, the band a may be pushed downwardly relative to the pole A to say the dotted line position of Figure 1, whereupon the lever 11 may be revolved to the position shown in Figure 4, it being ev1- dent that the cam head will drawsaid band a tightly about the pole A. v
It is obvious that the invention may be used for many purposes other than that illustrated; for instancefor clamping-hose for use with radiators, couplings, and the like; and that modifications may be made in the invention in departure from the particular description and the drawing without, however, departing from thetrue spirit of the invention. f
Having thus disclosed our invention, what we claim and desire to secure by` letters pattent is:
1'. In a clamp, a plate having a curved head and an oset end for securing the plate to an object and a second plate provided with a cam-Unleaded lever adapted to `cooper- Y ate with the curved head of the first plate.
2. The combination with a transversely with the rst plate in such a manner as to cause relative movement therebetween when the lever is moved.
In testimony whereof we have signed out names to this specification at El Segundo', California, this 17th day of April, 1928.
JOHN A. GEROW.
v ALFRED C. CANNON.
perforated band, of means for securing said v band in position of adjustment about an object; said meansk including twoV members. the first of saidrmembers being provided with a curved head and an oset'end portion, said Voffset end portion being adapted Vto be passed through one of the perforations of said band whereby said member has por-- i, tions lying on both sides of the band; said second member beingsecured to said band and provided with a cam-headed lever, the head portion of'which is adapted to cooperate with the curved head of the first member to cause relative movement between said members.
3. The combination with a transversely perforated band7 of means for securing said band 1n position of adjustment about an object; said means including a plate having a A Abody portion andan offset end portion, said offsetv end being adapted to be passed through one Yof the perforations of said band,V whereby said end will lie on one side ofthe band and the body portion on the opposite side thereof, a stud on said body for entering other of said perforations of the band and whereby the plate is positioned v relautive tothe band; a second plate secured tosald band and fo-rmed withY a bifurcated end,V a lever swingingly mounted between saidV bifurcations, said lever cooperatingY
