Description

Aug. 12, 1930. J. K. BURLEIGH INDICATOR Filed March 10, 1928 Patented Aug. 12, 1930 JAMES K. BUBLEIGH, or HASTINGS tron: HUDSON, mwebigie Application filed March 10,1928:al.3 6 33 t In this game the players bid, in accordance with recognized rules, for the privilege of announcing a trump, or no trump as may be preferred, the highest bidder obtaining the right of declaring what the trump shall be,
"10 and the dominant bid may be doubled or redoubled, all of which it is desirable to keep in the mind of the players.
Through inattention or forgetfulness, it frequently occurs that some of the players lose track of the trump and are likely to play inadvertently from such cause.
It is further quite desirable to indicate the honor cards as they are played in each game, and avoid confusion in the minds of the 29 players.
It is therefore the principal object of the present invention to provide a device, adj unctive to the game, by which a player can visually ascertain the number bid, the trump and the honors which have been played and by whom played.
A further feature is in the provision of a neat appearing device adapted to convenient size suitable of being held in the hand, having three rows of five openings through which may appear the number bid, the selected trump and the honors, these several elements being carried by individual slides easily and instantly shiftable by one of the players, preferably the dummy.
These and other advantages are obtained by the novel construction and combination of few and simple parts as hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Fig. 1, is a plan view of an embodiment of the invention with the slides set to display their inscriptions.
Fig. 2, isasimilar view of the same but showing the slides shifted to illustrate a condition occurring in playing the game.
Fig. 3, is a longitudinal sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.

Fig; 5; is a'pers'pective view of oneof the several slides used.
' Fig; 6, is 'a fragmentary perspective view of'a'portion'of the face o f'thedevice, showing.
a slight modification. p The Y "preferred form of this indicator is that of 'an oblong "rectangle, composed of a flat base plate, designated by the numeral'10, f

""The'plat'e' 1O ispr'eferably creased lengthwise'b'y formingnarrow rqov'esirto a' depth substantially equal to' the thickness of the material, the wales hus formed terminating short-0f the ends of the plate. f1; l
A second plate 12 is formed with offset, down-reaching margins '13- having binding edges 14 to' neatly receive the plate 10 themwithin and held by flanges' 1 5 integ'ralwith the outer plate 12, which is thus firmly-seated on the surface of the Wales 1 1;
A series of five rectangular openings'16j are arranged in a row at one end of the plate 12 and disposed in the space 17 between the plates lO'and 17 are slides 18 having a raised transverse, handle-like central element 19, the main'body portions of'the slides being bent at a slight angle to'each other for the purpose'of frictionally' engaging'between the plates to be retained in adjusted position.
The slides in this rowbear numerals 20, as 1, 2, 3 and 4, and also the syllable Be in one line and Don in the'line below either or both of which may be brought into registration with the opening 16.
'The word Bid appears 'over'this r'ow of openings and it is found in practice that'the four numerals and the sign Doubleor Bedouble cover the demands in all ordi'nary gamesw The word"Trum'p -appears over a central rowof five similar openings 21', below which are like-slides 22-havinghandles 23 for-shifting,zthese slides preferably bearing representations of-clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades, either, of which can be shifted into view and the remainer ycOncea-led so itoo can: a :fifth Another series of openings 24 at the foot of the bid, trump and honor cards played, reof the device, has displayed over it the word spectively.
