Description

July 1, 1930. N. L. SHANKLAND WINDOW STOP Filed May 31, 1929 lllll A/mwi. Sam/(4 mva "W Q1) (Mara/4v Patented July '1, 1930 NORA L. SHANKLAND, OF NEWTON, IOWA wmnow sror Application filed May 31,
'Reference is made to my former patent for window stop, numbered 1,461,499, dated July 10, 1923, of which this is an improvement. 7
An object of this'improvement is to add a sash-plate attachment which is morticed into the sash. The assembled construction will make the stop less conspicuous from the outside and therefore neater in appearance.
in Another object of my present invention is the provision of a window fastener which is.
rustless, durable, certain of operation, and inexpenslve to manufacture.
With the preceding and other objects and r advantages in mind, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, con struction and arrangement of parts and operations to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the ac 2O companying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the window stop or fastener attached thereto;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the fastener in locked position;
taken on line 3-3 of Fig. 2; a Fig. 4 is a similar cross-sectional view showing the fastening device unlocked, and Fig. 5 is a vertical cross-sectional View taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
8 Referring in detail to the drawing whereing similar characters of reference designate the same parts in the several views, the
numeral 1 shows a frame of which 2 isthe upper sash and 3 is the lowersash.
In the upper sash 2 is a mortice portion or recess 4 which has a metal lining 5 held positioned by screws 6. One portionv of a hinged locking device is 7 the other section is 8, the two being connected by pintle or hinge-pin 9. v I
' Section 7 is fastened to sash 2 by screws 10. A transverse channel 11 is formed in section 7 while 12 is a lockingbolt provided with slot 13 which is attached to member 8 by pin 14, both provided with finger engaging means 15. I
A keeper 16 is provided channel 17 and attached to the lower sash 3 by screws 18. i
Fig. 3 is a horizontal cross-sectional view 1929. Serial No. 367,394.
The construction is easily morticed into the frame and not visible from the outside.
In unlocked position member 8 is folded back on section 7 within the morticed recess 4; In locked or fastened position the lower edge of 8 engages channel 17 of the keeper 16 thereby preventing the lower sash 3 from being raised.
In locked position the locking bolt 12 is slid into channel 11 holding the hinged portions 7 and 8 closed. When unlocked the bolt 12 may be positioned longitudinally withhinged position 8 thereby being out of the way.
The device is simple to operate, fool-proof, neat, inexpensive and efficient in operation.
It is understood that. the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim. p
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure and protect by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
A window-stop comprising a pair of hingedly connected plates, one of said plates being rigidly attached within a mortised recess of one sash of a window, a keeper attached to the other sash of a Window, the keeper provided with a transverse channel, said channel being adapted to be engaged by theopposed hinged plate, and a bolt, slidably and pivotally connected to the second "mentioned hinged plate, adapted to hold the hinged plates in locked position.
