TAG.
Application filed March 24, 1928.
This invention relates to improvements in tags and has particular reference to a tag adapted to be attached to a garment or other piece of merchandise which tag may bear the price of the article as well as a notice stating that the article can not be returned if the is removed.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a tag which will be o f such a size as to be conspicuous when attached to an article and further to provide a tag which can not be removed from the article to which it is attached without mutilating the tag.
A further object is to produce a device which is simple to attach and economical to manufacture.
A still further object is to produce a device which may be attached to any type of article without mutilating the same.
Other objects and advantages will. be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same.
Figure 1 is a front plan View of my improved tag showing the same in open position,
Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 showing the tag in closed position, and
Figure 3 is a side elevation of Figure 2.
It a well known fact that various articles are received from stores which articles are used or worn and afterwards returned to the store with the excuse that the article is unsatisfactory for some reason or other.
Applicant has therefore devised a tag which may be attached to any article, which tag is of considerable size and which tag bears a notice stating that if the tag is removed the article can not be returned. Further the tag is so designed that after once being attached to the article the removal of the same and an attempt to replace would so mutilate the tag that it would be readably visible.
Referring now to Figure 1, the numeral 7 designates the lower portion of a blank and the numeral 8 one half of the upper portion Serial No. 641,366.
and 9 the other half of the upper portion of the blank, which has been folded down upon the lower portion the upper and lower portions being adapted to fold upon each other as indicated by the dotted line 11. The upper portions 8 and 9 are cut as shown at 12 (see Figure 2. This tag is gumn'ied so that when the upper sections are folded upon the lower section, an adhesion may take place.
In preparing my tag I fold the top section 9 upon the bottom section 7 and insert one end of a cord 13 therebetween. The free end of the cord brought out as shown at 14: so as to form a loop about the article to which it is attached after which the end 16 is placed between the bottom section 7 and the folded over top section 8. It is of course to be understood that the surfaces between 7 and 8 are properly moistened to cause the proper adhesion. together the cord will form a raised projcetion on the surface of the tag. Therefore, if a person were to steam the label apart and again attempt to replace the cord, the chances of getting the cord back in the same place would be very remote and consequently two raised portions would show ,upon the surface of the tag, one where the cord had been and the other where the cord is now positioned. This would be a telltale mark in that the tag had been removed.
It will thus be seen that by en'iploying my tag all the objects above set forth will be accomplished.
It is to be rmderstood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changesrelative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim 1. In a tag of the character described, a lower section, an upper section, said upper section being divided, one portion of said upper section being folded upon said lower section, a cord having one of its ends interposed and secured between said lower sec- By tightly pressing the parts lit) tion and said folded upper portion and adhesive means carried by said low r section and said remaining upper portion, whereby the remaining end of said cord may be secured when said last mentioned upper section is folded on said bottom section,
2. A method of forming and applying a tag, comprising first forming a blank having. an upper section and a lower section, dividing the upper section in two parts, folding one of said parts over and securing it to said bottom section and one end ot a cord disposed across the same, securing said cord throngl'i an article to which the tag is to be applied and placing the remaining end of the cord on said lower section in such a manner that the remaining top part when folded upon the bottom section and glued thereto will retain the last mentioned end of the cord therebetween.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
RICHARD LOWY.
