frame and the seat member, a back member having longitudinal slots in its side members, the lower end of the back being pivotally engaged to one of the supporting members, and the other supporting member being slidably mounted relatively to the back by means of the slots therein, this structure providing for moving the back down ontothe rocking frame, and the seat folded onto the back. The chair also has arms pivotally engaging the'back member and provided with slots engaging pins on one of the supporting members, the arms being foldable with the back and seat and supporting members heretoforedescribed.

The invention will be described in detail hereinafter and will be found illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view in elevation of the improved folding rocking chair showing the chair in extended position for use,

Figure 2 is a front view in elevation,

Figure 3 is a rear view in elevation,

Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view on a plane indicated by the line 4-4 of Figure 3,

Figure 5 is a side view in elevation showing the chair in folded position,

In the drawings, similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

The improved rocking chair comprises a rocking frame consisting of the rockers 1 connected at their front ends by a cross rod 2. 3 indicates the seat member that has depending side flanges 4 on which are pivotally engaged front and rear supporting members comprising front legs 5 and rear 1928. legs 6.- Front l'egs are provided with forwardly extending projections 5' and 7 indicatesa rodhaving reduced ends? pivotally engaging the flanges 4 andterminally secured to said forwardprojections 5 ,thus-providing for pivotal movement of the legs 5 onthe seat member 3. The lower ends of the legs 5 are pivotally engaged with the rockers l'by means of across rod 8 having reduced ends 8pivotally engaging said rockers and terminally secured to'the lower ends of the legs 5. The

legs 6 have their upper ends pivotally secured to the flanges 4 of the seat 3 by means of'a cross rod 9 having reduced extremities 9 that pivotally engage said flanges 4 and are terminally secured to the upper ends of the legs 6. Thelower ends of the legs 6 are pivotally engaged with the rockers 1 by means of a cross rod having reduced extensions 10 pivotally engaging the rockers and terminally secured to the lower ends of said legs 6. will be apparent that the rocker frame will be braced by the

rods

8 and 10 in addition to the cross rod 2. It will also be understood that the legs 5 with the

rods

7 and 8 form a front supporting member for the seat 3 and the legs 6 with the

rods

9 and 10 form arear supporting member for the seat 3.

The back member comprises the side rails 11 that are connected by the cross rods 12 to which is secured a panel 13, said back member being curved to conform to the curvature of the body to make an extremely comfortable seat. The lowerends of the side rails 11 are pivotally engaged with the lower ends of the front legs 5 by means of a cross rod 14 having its extremities reduced as shown at 14 to pivotally engage the side rails 11 and are terminally secured to the legs 5. 15, and 16 indicates a cross rod having reduced extremities that engage in said slots 15 and are terminally secured to the legs 6. The lower ends of the side rails 11, when the chair is in upright position as shown in Figure 1 are supported by terminally engaging shoulders 17 on the rockers 1. 18 indicates a cross rod connecting the rear legs 6 to strengthen the rear supporting members heretofore referred to.

What is claimed is 1. A folding rocking chair, comprising a rocking frame, a seat, supporting members pivotally connecting the seat and rocker frame, and a back frame pivotally engaging one of said supporting members and slidably engaging another of said supporting members.

2. A folding rocking chair, comprising a rocking frame having a shoulder, a seat, supporting members pivotally connecting the seat and rocking frame, and a back frame pivotally engaging one of said supporting members and slidably engaging another of said supporting members, said back frame abutting the shoulder on the rocking frame when the parts are in extended positions.

3. A folding rocking chair, comprising a rocking frame, a seat, front and rear supporting members pivotally secured to the seat and to the rocking frame, a back frame pivotally engaging the front supporting members and having longitudinal slots, the rear support ing members slidably engaging in said slots, arms pivotally engaging said back frame and having slots therein, and means slidably engaging in the last mentioned slots and secured to the front supporting members.

4. A folding rocking chair, comprising a rocking frame, a seat, front and rear supporting members, each of said members including legs, rods connecting the lower ends of the legs and arranged transversely of the rocker frame, rods connecting the upper ends of said legs and arranged transversely of the seat, a back frame having longitudinal slots therein, a rod pivotally connecting the back frame and the legs of the front support ing member, a rod connecting the legs of the rear supporting member and slidably engaging in the slots in the back frame, arms pivotally engaging said back frame and having slots therein, and pins secured to the legs of the front supporting member and slidably engaging in the slots in the arms.
