EXERCISER, REDUCER, AND HEALTH BUILDER.
Application filed March 10, 1928. Serial No. 260,725.
The object of my invention is toprovide an excrciser, reducerl and health builder of very simple and durable construction.
More particularly, it is my Object to provide such an exereiser so constructed and arranged as to be peculiarly adapted for taking a great variety of exercises.
Another purpose of my invention is to provide an exerciser comprising a pair ofr stirrups adjustably connected together with a pair of handles and adjustable tension devices arranged between the stirrups and the handles.
In this connection, it is my ypurpose to provide stirrups of peculiar and novel con-A struction. l
lith these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various. parts of my exerciser, reducer and health builder, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully'set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l shows a perspective view of an exerciser embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged, detail, sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Figure and Figure 3 is a side elevation illustrating the manner of using my exerciser.
In the drawings herewith, I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate generally the stirrup forming a part'of my exerciser. I use two of these stirrups, each having at its upper part a loop 12 and at its inner side a loop 14.
The stirrups 10 are connected by means of a flexible strap 16, the ends `of which are fastened by a buckle 18, so'that the maximum distance between the' stirrups may be varied by adjusting the strap 16.
Iy provide for my exerciser a pair of handles. The handles are indicated generally at A. Each handle comprisesa U- shaped member 20, having its lower end a loop 22 and at its upper end a rotatable handle member 24v received betweenthe upper ends ofthe arms of the yoke and mounted on ai spindle or the like 26.
Between each stirrup loop 12 and the loop 22 of the corresponding handle is a iexible,
resilient strap or the like 2S made of a strip of strong rubber.
The ends of each rubber member 28 are connected by means of a buckle or the like 30, comprising a substantially, rectangular frame, longer than it is wide, and having acentral cross bar 32 arranged a little above the plane in which the frame of the buckle lies, as illustrated in Figure 2.
Thus there is provided in this exerciser a pair of stirrups 10 connected together by means of a strap 16 of non-resilient mate- 65 rial, s0 that the'maximum distance of opera-` tion of the stirrups can be regulated.
Each stirrup 1s connected with a handle A by means of a strong rubber connecting member, the length ,ofA which can be varied as may be desired.
@Such an exerciser 'is capable of akgreat variety of uses.
One manner of using the exerciser is illustrated in Figure 3. The user 34 puts his 75 feet through the stirrups 10, grasps the handle, and sits` down on the licor, and by lying down can stretch the members 28 and then by rising to sitting posture While the members are thus under tension can exercise the leg, arm, abdominal, back and neck muscles.
There is thus possible, an exercise similar to that of rowing a. boat, withk the consequent exercising and strengthening of the muscles as explained.
The user may lie flat on his back, raise his legs to position extending upwardly, and then Swingthem'down to prone position for another exercise, or if he desires theuser may stand 0n the floor and bend forwardly and straighten up for a very effective exercise.
The strap 16 may be taken olf for using one of the exerciser devices, gripping the stirrup with one hand and the handle with the other. 4
These `are simply illustrative exercises, and it may be seen that any number of different exercises may be practiced with my device. Y
I claim as my invention:
1. In a device of the class described, a pair of stirrups, each having a loop at its upper side and a loop at its inner side, a 105 longitudinally adjustable fiexible member connecting the inner' loops, handles compris- 2. In a device of the class described, a
ing yokes, with rotatable handle elements pair of stirrups, a longitudinally adjustable 10 Y between their arms and with loops at 1szlieir flexiblel member Connecting` the' stirrups,
portions opposite the rotatable handles, and handles, and flexible, resilient, longitudi- 5 flexible, resilient, longitudinally, extensible nally extensiblel members Connecting the members connecting the respeetiveloops on stirrups with the handles.
the upper sides of the stirrnps with the DesMo-ines, Iowa, March 5,1928. v
loops on the handles. HUGH P. CHRISTESEN.
