The present invention relates to slip covers for seats and more particularly to slip covers because of the marked differences in the difor seats such as overstuffed chairs and sofas.

Heretofore slip covers for overstuffed .chairs and sofas were made to fit only a particular'set of furniture. This was necessary mensions and styles in the pieces of different sets for furniture sets vary considerably in' depth and width of seats, thickness of cushions, length of'arms, width of backs, and in the degree of overstufling as well as in style Accordingly, slip covers were either made to order for a particular set of furniture or when bought ready made great difiiculty was experienced in obtaining .a proper fit. Moreover, even when a proper fit was obtained the pics a sea ready made slip cover was readily recognized as such and lacked the perfect fit and more pleasing appearance of the slip covers made to fit a particular set.

The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which, while showing the preferred construction, are to be considered only as illustrative of the invention and not as limiting the invention to the particular construction shown for it is obvious to those skilled in the art that the construction may be varied to a considerable degree without excluding the essential features of the invention.

Referring to the,drawings, and more partlcularly to Fi 1, there is shown an overstuffed parlor 0 air 10 of a more or lesscon1- I -mon construction, this chair having a separable seat cushion as is usual in chairspf this type. The slip cover of the present invention is shown applied to this chair and is' seen to comprise a back cover portion 11,

12 and 13 and a cushion cover portion 14. The slip cover is made large enough to permit portions thereof to be tucked in be- 7 tween the sides of the cushion and the arms of the chairas indicated by the reference character 15 in Fig. 1, and between the rear of the cushion and the back of the chair as indicated by the reference character 16 in Fig. 2, and the tucked in portions are adapted to extend substantially to the bottom edges of the cushion.

A cover portion 17 is provided for the front of the cushion and is stitched to the front upper edge 18 and the front side edges 19 of the cushion cover. A cover portion 20 is provided for the front of the chair and is stitched to the lower ed e 21 of the front cover 17 of the cushion. T us, there are

18, 19 and 21 following the front edges of the cushion whereby there is imparted to the cushion cover portion of the slip cover the appearance of a separate cover for the cushion.

The slip cover shown in Fig. 3 is substantially the same as that shown in Figs. 1 and 2 except that it is modified in outline to more accurately fit a chair 10 of a type considerably different from that shown in Fig. 1. The portions of the slip cover are substantial ly the same as the corresponding portions in. Fig. 1 and are designated by. the same refer-= ence characters primed. It is to be noted however that the chair 10 is provided with

12 and 13 and that the slip cover is tucked in between the back of the chair and the wings as indicated by the reference character 11*.

The slip cover may be embodied in a form to fit a sofa 10 shown in Fig. 4C. The construction of the slip cover for the sofa is substantially the same as that shown in Fig. 1

:2, A unitary slip cover for a seat provided with a separable seat cushion, the said cover having portions for covering and conforming to the shape of the top of the seat cushion and back and arms of the seat, and portions for tucking along the sides of the cushion and between the rear of the cushion and the hack of the seat to substantially the bottom edges of the cushion, and a portion for coveringthe front of said seat cushion comprising a substantially rectangular shaped piece of material, said cover portion for the top and sides of the seat cushion being united with said rectangular piece of material by stitches following the front edges oi the cushion.
