SANITARY SANDAL.
Application filed August 15, 1927. Serial No. 218,090.
The principal objects of the invention are to devise a sandal which will protect the foot of the wearer from being soiled while walking to and from a bath or swimming pool or while in a dressing room, and which will fit snugly to the foot.
A still further object is to devise a. form of sandal which will readily adapt itself'to fit different sizes of feet.
The principal features of the invention consist in forming a sandal with a sole portion of a tough flexible inelastic paper and a vamp portion of an elastic material stitched to said sole portion to form a toe pocket.
In the drawings, Figurel is a perspective view of my improved sandal as worn upon the foot.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the sandal.
Figure 3 is a cross section through Figure 2 on the line 3-3. p v
The sandal as herein shown is formed witha sole portion 1 of a material impervious to water, such as a close-grained malay, glazed or water-proofed paper of strong texture and a vamp portion 2 formed to conform to.

the size of the forward portion of the sole and of a material having a marked degree of extensibility permitting expansion to acc0m-' modate the forward portion of the foot.
The form of sandal may be altered to con-.
siderable extent but the principal element is in the use of an elastic material across the upper forward portion which will allow for the proper expansion of the toe pocket y when the foot is inserted therein. The preferred material with which to accomplish the desired result is a strong texture paper for the sole portion and a tough In the manufacture of this class of sandal only one or two sizes are made, but because of the flexibility of the paper stock from which the vamp is made, together with the paper sole, different sizes of. feet will fit into the pocket so formed and find comfortable accommodation, the elastic material spreading around the minor' shapes of thefoot, holding the sandal snugly to the for ward portion of the foot without undue pressure.
When the sandal is placed on the foot the edges ofthe sole portion are drawn upward around both sides of thefoot preventing the sloshing of water on to the foot surface of the sole portion thereby furnishing further. protection to the foot. i v
