IMPROVEMENT IN HAI R-CRIMPING PINS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,388, dated October 5, 1875; application filed March 29, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARIA GARDNER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hair-Crimping Pins, of which the following is a specification:
Figure l is a side view of my improved hair-crimping pin, partly in section, to show the construction. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detail View of the fastening-pin enlarged.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved pin for ladies use in crimping their hair, which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, and will not be liable to become entangled in the hair, or to become accidentally unfastened.
The invention consists in animproved haircrilnping pin formed of the U shaped pin, hav ing a number of holes formed in its arms, and the fastening pin, having a key pivoted in its slotted forward end, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the pin, which is bent into U form, or In the arms of the pin A are formed a number of holes, a, to receive the short pin B. The pin B has a head formed upon one end, and its other end is split, as shown in Fig. l, and in dotted lines in Fig. 3. In the slit in the end of the pin B is pivoted a key, 0, which may be turned across the pin B, as shown in Fig. 1, and in dotted lines in Fig. 3, to keep the said pin B from workin g out of the holes in the arms of the pin A, or may be turned lengthwise of the pin B, to be conveniently passed into and withdrawn from the holes in the pin A. The key 0 is held in either position by the elasticity of the slotted end of the said pin B.
In using the device, the lock of hair to be crimped is passed around the arms of the pin A alternately, and is pressed together toward the bow of said pin A. The pin B is then passed through the holes in the pin A nearest to the hair, and is secured in place byturnin g the key 0 across it, as shown in Fig. 1. To undo the crimp the key 0 is turned longitudinally with the pin B, the pin B is removed, and the pin A withdrawn from the hair.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A hair-crimping pin formed of the U-shaped pin A, having a number of holes, a, formed in its arms, and the fastening-pin B, having a key, 0, pivoted in its slotted forward end, substantially as herein shown and described.
