SALES RACK.
Application filed October 1, 1924. .Sei'ial No. 740,981.
One object of our invention is to provide a rack for displaying rolled merchandise, such as oil cloth, and other floor coverings.
A further object of the invention is to design the rack so that the goods will remain in a vertical. position when the upper sup-- port is mover to allow a salesman to remove, one or more of the rolls. I
The invention also re ates to certain cletails of construction, which will be full described hereinafter, v
in the accompanying drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of our im proved sales rack with the rolls of merchandise in position;
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the rack;
Fig. 3 is a plan view;
4 is a vertical sectional view onthe line if-ft, Fig. 2; and
Fig. 5 is a sectional plan View on the line 5 5, Fi i.
The sales rack is made of metal, in the .prcsent instance, and has a base 1 made of two longitudinal sheet metal sections 2 and 3 connected to vertical end members '4. The section 2 is bent'over to form an extended base 5. The base 5, as well as the section 3, has perforated feet 6 for thereception of screws, or other fastenings, by which the rack is secured to a floor, or other support.
Each end of the section 2 is bent at right angles, as at 7, for attachment to the end member 4. In the base is an inclined bot tom plate 8, which is arranged at an incline, as shown in Fig. 1. The plate is inclined towards the back so as to support the outer edge of the rolls, as at m. causing'the rolls to lean towards the back of the rack. By this construction, the rolls will remain in a .vertical position when the upper support is detached when a roll is to be removed from the rack. w
The front edge of each end member 4 is rolled and the rear edge of each member is flanged. as at 9. The upper ends of the end members 4 are connected together by a flanged back strip'10.
The frame is braced bya central strip '11 and diagonal members 12, 12, Fig, 2.
At the front of the rack is a retaining member 13, which is in the form of a plate with a turned in lower edge 14. This retaining member is pivoted to one of the end members at and is detachably connected to the other end member by a hook 16, which passes through a slot 17 in the retaining member 13.
The rolls of goods are placed in the rack, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4. The lower edges ofthe rolls rest on the inclined bottom plate 8. The retaining member 13 is located in position to prevent any accidental tilting of the rolls. I
. When it'is necessary to remove one of the rolls from the rack, one end of the retaining member is detached and is allowed to swing down on its pivot 15, after which any one of the rolls can be removed. After removal, the retaining member is replaced in position. t y We claim:
1. The combination in a sales rack, of a rame having a vertical back section and an open front, said frame having a base with an inclined bottom plate, the bottom plate being inclined towards the rear, the outer edges'of rolls vertically located in the rack resting upon the inclined bottom plate, so that the tendency of the rolls will be to rest against the back of the structure. p 2. The combination in a sales rack, of a base; side members extending from the base; a vertically arranged back; a bottom plate in the base, said bottom plate being inclined towards the rear so as to retain rolls of material against the back in a vertical position, the front of the rack being open; and a movable front retaining member extending from one side of the rack to the opposite side thereof.
' 3. The combination in anopen front sales rack, of a base consisting of a front and a rear section, the front section being bent upon itself and inclined; an inclined bottom section located in the base, the incline of the bottom section beingtowards the rear; two end members to which the sections of the base a're secured, each end member being flanged at the rear; a flanged upper back strip secured to the flanges of the end members;
