Description

Patented May 3, 1927.
UNITED" STATES PATIENT OFFICE.
OLIVER R. BOYNTON, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.`
IBEATER i R MIXER.
Application led October 5, 1925. SerialiNo. 60,491.
` My invention relates to improvementsin beater's or mixers adapted for beating eggs or mixing different materials.
One of the objects of my vinvention is to provide a beater or mixer of the kind described, which is simple, cheap, durable, not i Fig. 8 is a cross section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Similar reference characters designate, similar parts in the different views.
1 designates a bearing means comprising preferably a casting having at itsupper' end a `handheld 2, and having below `the handhold a lateral recess 3 in which is revolubly mounted a` pinion 4 which is rigidly secured to and rotatable with a longitudinal supporting member comprising a rod 5 which is rotatably mounted in the bearing member 1 and which extends across therecess 3.
`6 designates a supporting member comp prising preferably a tube rotatably mounted in the bearing member 1 and having the` same axis as the rod`5, the latter being extended through the tube 6 and being rotatably mountedon and attached to a supporting button 7,`which is adapted to rest on the bottom of a container, not shown, which contains the material to be beaten or mixed.
Rotatably mounted on the bearing member 1 is a driving gear wheel 8 having an operating crank 9 and meshing with the pinion 4.
A pinion 10 is secured on and rotatable with the tube 6 and meshes .with the teeth of the gear wheel 8 at a point diametrically opposite to the pinion 1, whereby, when the' gear wheel 8 is rotated by means of the crank: `9, the rod 5 and tube 6 will be simultaneously revolved on the same axis in opposite directions. f
section on the line The bearing mediate of the which is secured onthe upper end of the tube 6, whereby the latter is held from vertical movement in themember 1.
The beater or mixer is provided with two mixing devices, each comprising a wire helix in the form of an annulus. Secured to one helix 12 are upwardly extending supporting arms 13 which are fastened tothe rod 5'below the tube 6.v Theother helix 14 is outside of and conmember 1 is disposed interdisposed adjacent to and in the same plane as the-helix 12, and hasl fastened to it and revoluble with it upwardly extending supporting arms 15 whichv are fastened to and revolve with the tube 6.
- In the operation of the beater or mixer, the button 7 is mounted in the container which holds the materials'to be beaten orI mixed, andv the driving gear is rotated by means of its crank 9, thereby revolving the 'helices12'and 111 simultaneously in opposite direct-ions by means of the pinions i and 10,v
and rod 5v and tube 6L lBy having the arms 13 'and 15 fastened .to the upper'`r sides of the helices-12 and 14,
andex'tending therefrom obliquely upwardly to and respectively fastened to the rod 5 and tube 6, clear spacesare-aiforded in the smaller helix and between the helices for the passage therethrough of the material which is` being beaten, thereby assisting in the cir-` culation and quick mixing thereof.
pinion l10 and a collar 11 centric with the helix 12 and is, preferably, I
I do not limit myinvention'to the structure shown and described, as many modifcations, within the scope of the appended lclaim,'may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention. What I claim is In a beater or mixer of the kind described, i
two rotary members one revoluble around the other, means for simultaneously rotatingA said members in opposite directions, two concentric annular wire helices adjacent to each other,l and arms respectively attached to said 4helices and extending obliquely upwardly from the tops of to and respectivelyfastened to said rotary members.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification. f
