Description

' I 1,615,728 Jan. 25, 9 R SMITH I SUPPORT Filed Nov. 27, 1925 Patented Jan. 25, 1927.
PATENT OFFICE.
PERCY SMITH, OF GLENWOOD, WASHINGTON.
surron'r.
Application filed November 27, 1925. Serial No, 71,792. I
This invention comprehends the provision of a womb support for sheep, which support is simple in construction and designed to be quickly and conveniently arranged to hold the womb in place, the invention residing in the construction and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and. wherein:
Figure 1 is a plan View of the support.
Figure 2 is a side elevation.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
There are always a number of sheep in a large herd that suffer from womb trouble caused by jainloing or weakness, and frequently a ewe drops her womb after lambing, and it is the purpose of this invention to eliminate a large degree of this trouble by providing a support which can be conven- :iently handled and arranged to hold the womb in place. The support may of course be constructed from any suitable material, and also vary in shape and size without de parting from the spirit of the invention, but it preferably is constructed of solid rubber, as clearly illustrated in the drawing, and reinforced by a relatively stiff element. The support consists of a curved handle 10, at one end of which is arranged a spherical head 11, while projecting from the opposite end of the handle is a ring-like member 12. \Vhile these parts may be made separate and joined together in any suitable manner, they are preferably formed integral, and the entire support strengthened by a reinforcing element 13, such as wire or the like, which is embedded within the material from which the support is constructed. This reinforcing element extends through the handle 10, as indicated at 13, and also formed with an annular portion 14 to be embedded in the ring 12, while the other end of the reinforcing element is designed to properly reinforce the spherical member 11, as indicated at 15. The support can be quickly and conveniently arranged to hold the womb in place, the support being held in position by tying it through the ring 12 to the wool of the sheep. It is to be understood that the invention is just as useful before lambing to prevent ewes dropping their'wombs before such time. The reinforcing element 13 also renders the support. pliable so it can be conveniently used for the purposes intended.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit or confine myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A womb support for sheep comprising a curved handle, a spherical member arranged at one end thereof, and a ring-like member projecting from the other end of the handle whereby the support can be tied to the wool of the sheep.
2. A womb support for sheep constructed from yieldable material and including a curved handle, and a spherical head arranged at one end of the handle, and a reinforcing element of relatively stifl' material embedded in the support.
3. A support of the character described constructed from rubber and including a curved handle, a spherical head arranged at one end of the handle, a ring-like member projecting from the opposite end thereof, and a reinforcing element embedded in the support and designed to conform to the ringlike member.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
PERCY SMITH.
