FOOT MUFF.

This invention relates to foot muffs and has for its object to provide an improved article of that kind adapted for use in automobiles or other vehicles for the protection of feet and ankles in cold weather, and also for use in stadiums, rolling chairs, in hospitals, .and elsewhere.

The device is so constructed that both feet may be placed in the inuif, and the invention is characterized by a new manner of constructing the muff, giving a very neat and attractive appearance, and by reason of the materials employed will be warm and comfortable.

F or the lining of the Inuif, sheepskin is used, with the wool inside, and this is covered by broad clot-h or other suitable fabric, with an attractive piping capable of ornamental selection in contrasting colors.

The characteristics and construction of the .article will be apparent from the. following description and the accompanying draw ings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective of the muii, complete. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective of the lining before the covering is applied. Fig. a is a section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.

As stated, the lining is made of sheepskin with the wool attached and it is shown in Fig. 3. This lining consists of a substantially rectangular bottom piece 6, two side pieces 7, a back piece 8, and a front piece 9, stitched together as indicated at 10 around the edges of the pieces, to produce a double boot shaped muli of sufficient width to receive'both feet of the wearer and of sufricient depth to cover the feet and ankles. The sheeps wool on the inside gives a desirable warmth and softness.

Fitting upon the lining thus constructed is an outer covering constructed in much the same way. This covering is made of cloth and leather, the rectangular bottom piece 11 being made of the latter, and stitched to this are two side pieces 12, a front piece 13, and a baci-r piece 14.. Piping 15, preferably vof different colored cloth, is inserted in the seams and gives a very ornamental effect.

The covering so constructed is fitted or slipped over the lining` shown in Fig. 8 and the upper edges are then covered by a binding 1G which is lapped over the edges on the inside and outside, and all the parts are then sewed together around the top. This binding is preferably heavy ornamental material Serial No. 164,632.

such as fur or plush, and forms in effect an ornamental trimming which will iit closely around the legs cf the wearer, and the top may be drawn together around t-he legs by a cord 17 at the middle detachably engaging a hook 18 at the inner front edge. An ornafeund particularly useful for service in automobiles and other vehicles and considerable modification is possible, within the scope of the invention, with respect to the materials used and the ornamental effects obtainable.

I claim:

` 1. A foot muli' of sutiicient width to receive both feet of the wearer, and comprising a lining of skin having an interior woolly surface, and a cloth covering thereover, the lining and covering each consisting of a bottom piece, front and back pieces, and two side pieces, sewed together, the pieces of both the lining and the covering being similar in shape and sewed together independently and of sufficient rigidity to normally retain an upright permanent shape.

2. A foot muif of sufficient width to receive both of the feet of the wearer, and a connecting device for drawing the upper edges ofthe muff together atrthe middle thereof.

3. A foot muff comprising an upright casing having walls of suflicient stiffness to normally stand alone, saidwalls consisting of a lining and a covering each consisting of a r body piece, a substantially flat back piece, two substantially fiat side pieces and a curved front piece, said pieces being sewed together independently in the lining and covering respectively, the front and back pieces spacing the side pieces apart, and a binding lapped over the top edges of the klining and covering to fasten the same to` gether.
