UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEP F. POOL, OF MONROE, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN MILK-SAFES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,227, dated February 23, 1875; application led March 4, 1874.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEP F. POOL, of Monroe, in the county of Green and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Milk-Safes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a milk-safe, which may be used as a cupboard and as a refrigerator, as will be more fully hereinafter set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and usethe same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and Operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a vertical section, and Fig. 2 a plan through the line x x,- and Fig. 3 is a View in detail, showing the central shelf' and ribs.
The casing of my milk-safe is made in circular form, of a series of wooden frames, A A, with wire-cloth B covering said frames, a double bottom, O, and a double top, D. The
' frames or sections A A are all secured to the top and bottom with the exception of one, A', which forms the door, and is hinged to the adjoining section on one side and fastened to the one on the other side by a lock, latch, or other suitable fastening device.
Through the center ofthe casin g thus formed passes a vertical stationary shaft, E, upon which a series of shelves are placed as follows: G represents a solid shelf of such diameter as to tit closely within the casin g, resting upon ribs or stays c a', attached to the inner sides of the various sections, and the shelf fastened by means of buttons b b under said ribs. These ribs and shelf divide the casing or safe into two compartments-the upper to be used as a milk-safe, and the lower as a cupboard or as a refrigerator. To this end the lower portions of all the sections which form the casing are provided with exterior hinged doors H H, made double and packed with any suitable non-conducting material. The maindoor A may be made in two partsone for each coinpartment, or made in one piece, as shown.
In each of the compartments thus formed are placed one or more revolving shelves, either made solid, as shown at G1, or open, as shown at G2. Each shelf is supported upon a collar, d, fastened on the central shaft E by means ot'a set-screw, t', so that it can be adjusted up and down, as may be desired.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The solid shelf G, constructed to conform snugly to the internal shape of the safe, in combination with door A, provided with rib a', substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The central shaft E, solid stationary shelf G, revolving shelves G1 G2, ribs a a', and doors A and H, all arranged to form a combined milk-safe and refrigerator, substantially as herein described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my Own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J. F. POOL.
