Description

sept. z8 192s. 1,601,287 Y G.. BERTINETTI PRINTLNG PLATE FOR DUPLICATING MACHINES A Filed Jan. 25. 1926 Patented Sept. 28,` 1926.
UNITED STATES GIOVANNI BERTINETTI, OF TURIN, ITALY.
:PRINTING PLATE FOR DUPLICATING MACHINES.
Application led January 23, 1 926, Serial No. 83,320, and in Italy January 29, 1925.
The present invention relates to duplieating machines vfor reproducing writings, typewritten matter and the like, and it has for its object the provision of the printing plates to be used in said duplicating machines by the aid of a thin metal sheet said sheet being adapted to be acted on by means of a style or the like or to be inserted in the platen carriage of, a typewriter to receive impressions which produce corresponding reliefs adapted to act as printing means on the printing plate thus obtained being arranged for use in a duplicating machine.
According to the present invention use is made for producing a printing plate of said kind of athin sheet of a metal having a thickness between 5/100 and 2/10 of a millin metre.
According to a feature of the present invention use is made for such a purpose of a soft or annealed aluminium sheet having a thickness between 0.05 and 0.20 millimetre.
It has been found that by using an aluminium sheet having a thickness of 0.08-009 of millimetre in a usual typewriter very sharp reliefs `may be obtained without affecting the typewriter types, the printing plate thus obtained lbeing able to withstand satisfactorily the printing pressure when it is used in known duplicating machines in. which the material tobe printed is pressed against the printingplate with an intermediate inking sheet or after said printing plate having been inked. v
Soft or annealed aluminium sheet has been found particularly useful in this connection because of its known property of hardening 'at' the points where it is acted on and extended by the impact action of the types or by pressure of the style, the relief portions thus produced in the sheet being made hard and enabled to withstand printing pressure.4
Therefore a very large number of clear and sharp prints may be obtained by means of printing plates according to the present invention For the urpose of producing a printing plate accor ing to this invention, an aluminium sheet of the described character is located on a soft supporting layer,- as a rubber.` sheet, and depressions are produced therein by means of a style or the like.
Otherwise the said sheet of aluminium is located on the platen of a usual typewriter, like a usual paper sheet, With a soft sheet, as a rubber sheet, between the said aluminium sheetv and platen, and then the typewriter is actuated in the usual manner, the inking ribbon of the same being obviously made inoperative.
The figure of the ,annexed drawing shows by way of illustration in fragmentary and perspective view a printing plate obtained in the described manner, the sheet 1 having reliefs 2 obtained as above described'.
For use the printing plate thus obtained is inked and pressed against the materal toy be printed, or it is forced a ainst said material with an intermediate inking sheet, as well known inthe art.
'What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent 1s:--
1. A printing plate for duplicating ma- 'chines and the like consisting of a thin sheet of soft or annealed aluminium said sheet being embossed to provide printing reliefs.
2. A printing plate for duplicating machines and the like consisting of a sheet of aluminium having a thickness between 0.05 and 0.2 millimetre, said sheet being embossed to provide printing reliefs,
3. A printing p ate for duplicating machines and the like consisting of a sheet of soft or annealed aluminium having a thickness between 0.05 and 0.2 millimetre and embossed to provide printing reliefs, the
-met-al of said sheet being made hard in said embossed portions by action of impact or pressure. i
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
