Applioationiled February 19, 1925. Serial No; 10250. i f
. T0 all whom t may concern# v Be it known ,that I, AXEL G. ANDERSON; a citizenvof theUnited States, residing atl Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and .l State of Minnesota, have invented *certainy new and useful Improvements in Combina. tion Tools; and I do hereby declare thehfofllowing to be a full,A clear, and eXact descrip-` tion of the invention, 'such as will enable .others skilled in the art towhich it .appei' tains tomake and use the saine.
. Thisiinvention relates to av combination tool and particularly to that type-fof kdevice in which a plurality ofseparate toolszare carried ina. casing and' adapted to be singly'vr brought into operative position Aand used.
It-is an object ofthis inventionto 'provide' y with a plungerfor ejecting the selectedftool's intooperative position` and holding thesame in-'such position. n l ,.1 I .A Itis-also an object vof .the inventionto provide such ka tool comprisinga singlev cheap, economical casing and magazineV cooperating therewith. .Y
These and other .objects and advantages of theinv'entionwill be fully sety forth in the following description ,made in Vconnection onthe line tif-5 of Fig. 2.
- with they accompanying ,drawings in which like reference characters .referto the `same parts throughout the different views, and iii Fig. 1 is a .view in side elevation of thel dei vice with altool in operative position.;
Fig. l1
Fig. 3 is fa similary sectionk showing the,
parts in different position; v Fig. 4 is aview in endfelevation ofthe tool, as seenfrom the left ofFig. y1; and f `Fig. 5' is a v,view in vertical section taken 4 Referring to the drawings.,.theid'evicecomprises a shell or casing 10 of generally-cylindrical shapeandithiscasing has circumferen` tially, spaced l'inwardly projecting portions 10a. W hilethese projections could be'formed in various ways, `in the embodiment ofthe Fig. 2.7is a central vertical sectionthrough Y 1,579,4e8 i PATENT invent-ionr illustrated7 they .are slioWnK-as formed :depressed portions ofqthecasing of'fcurved shape'in crosssection. A maga zine 11. isk provided andwhile this magazine could be formedin various ways,in thelem:

The magazine 11 is thus held -in fixed relation to the' 'casing' 10. 'The ,casing lOfis interiorly threadedin one end topreceive the reduced andithreadedlend of anend-.member 12, the exterior-'of memberslO and 12 preferably being i'iush. .l The member v12 is reduced at its other .end and providedv withv an angularlyv shaped. opening 12a lshown als,,substantiallyE square, which opening has smallprojections 12b extending 'inwardly from the' Wallsv thereof at" points substantiallyratthe middle poin'tofsaid'walls, The other yend of casing 1Q is provided adjacent `its; end edge with a .smallV circumferentiaflly extendingfgroovel 101?, said groove'being y'substantially semi cylindrical in cross section. The' member`13. and stem 13" have formed therein an ,angular `passage 13? of rectangular shape,
-V this passage Vopeningfat one side .of stem 13". .A plunger 115y ofrectangular shape-in crosssection lits in the passagfe-l-cfcv and Vis los l slidable `'therein and...th rough :the end of member 13,'jl The .plunger 15 has-a small j clined cam surface '181).
"The chambers 11a are each adapted yto receive a tool or implement such as the tool Y 20 show-n in Figs. 1 and 2, having a-n ang-ular -or square shape in Vcross section and being provided With longitudinally extending grooves 20a centrally disposed in each side thereof and having therein cross pins 20h. Said tools are of -a size 'to fit in the magazine 11 and to be received in the p assage 13c formed in the stem 13b. The casing 10 is provided adjacent the member 18 with characters 19 indicating the tool which is carried in the chamber 11a alined with said characters and the member 13 carries on its periphery a point 13f alined With the open end of passage 13C adapted to co-operate with the 'characters 19.
In operati-on, the tools will be disposed inthe various chambers 11a and said tools may comprise screw drivers, belt punches, a file'anfd other small tools or implements.
VThe plunger 15 will be in* the position shown in Fig. 2 and the plunger pin 18 Will be vin position -shoivn Ain Fig. 2. It will be seen that when this plunger `pin is pushed to its inward position, the pin 17 will be projected int-o the hole or passage 13e. The plunger is thus heldin position and cannot be Withdrawn endWise of member 13. When it is desir-ed kto select and project one of the tools for use the memberV 18 Will be turned to bring point 13t into alinement With the character 19 of the desired tool and the plunger pin 18 Will now be Withdrawn. The
then holding the casing horizon-tally in the4 proper position the Ytool will again drop into its chamber 11a. Flu-nger 15 can now be aga-in pushed into the .casing .and locked by pushing in plunger pin 1*'8. Any of the tools carried in Jdie casing can thus be quickly and easily projected into operative position and can quickly and easily be 'again disposed. in the casing. When the tools are disposed in tli-ecasing and members 15 and 18 are in their inward position, the device is in very compact shape and can conveniently be carried in a small kit or in the pocket.
From the above description it is seen that applicant has provided a very simple and elficient combination tool comprising a plurality of different tools or implements, anyone of which can be readily used. The parts are comparatively few and of simple construction and the tool can be easily and economically made, The device has been amply demonstrated in actual practice and found to be very successful and etlicient.
It will, of course, be understood, that various changes may be made in the form, details, arrangement and proportions of the parts Without departing from the scope of appli-cants invention, which, generally stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects set forth and in the novel parts and combination of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.

5. A combination tool having in combina` tion, a casing having an opening through v Aone end thereof, a magazine disposed in said casing having a plurality of circumferen-y 'tially disposed tool receiving chambers therein opening radially inward, ay plurality of tools disposed respectively in said chambers,
a revoluble member disposed `centrally in 'o v saidl casing and magazine and vcofaxial with said opening, and havinga passage therein open at one side adapted l to alinel with any u one of said tool receiving chambers, a i
plunger normallydisposed in said passage but lreciprocable through one end ofV said casingto permit the entry of a tool into. saidy 'passage and to project said tool Yout through said opening.
f 6. A combination tool having in combina-l tion, a substantially `cylindrical shell having n circumferentially spaced inwardly directed projections on its interior, a magazine formed of.v a piece of sheet material bent tol VVform a plurality of radially extending chambers having inner opensides, the said projections being disposed. between said chambers to prevent relative rotation of said casing and magazine.
7. A combination'tool comprising a casing having therein a magazine formed of sheet material folded into a plurality of chambers havingpsubstantiall radially eX- ten'ding parallel sides, said c ambers being vclosed at their outer sides and having their inner sides open and each adapted-to receive a tool therein.
