Be it known that I. WILLIAM IV. LA-SKER,
Jr., .a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings, city and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Records for Accounting Systems.
My invention relates to improvements in Y forminga designating means on documents such as cards, cheques, railroad orother tickets, way bills, money orders, and the like; and the objects of my improvement are, first, to provide means for designating documents of said character whereby the same may be sorted, distributed and tabulated by suitable accounting machines; sec- 0nd,- to provide a means whereby original documents may be designated for sorting,
distributing and tabulating in accounting machines and thus avoid the error possible in transcribing from original document to special records for the purpose. A further object of my invention is to provide a designating means that can be applied to documents at the time same are printed or any time thereafter toform a designating record that will not be structurally mutilated or weakened thereby.
I attain t 'ese objects by means hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a view of a document showing the improved designating means ofone digit.
Fig. 2 is a view of a document showing the improveddesio'natingmeans of two digits.
Fig. 3 is a view of a document showing the improved designating means of three digits.
Fig. 4 is a view showing a document with designating digits. of a modified form.

Referring to the drawing Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4i'represent documents in the form of railroad tickets which form I will use to iIlustrate and describe an example of my invention; it being understood that record cards, way bills, cheques, money orders, and other records may be'designated in a similar manner according to my invention.
The document 1 is formed of paper, card board or the like-and may he of any suitable material having electrical insulating properties.

The special machines referred to are not illustrated or described herein as .the same will form the subject matter of separate patent applications.
An example of the use of -my improved designatingrecordsis as follows; let the document Fig. 1 represent a railroad ticket issued from station 7 Fig. 2 from station 1,
9 Fig. 3 from station 1, 9, 7 tickets issued from other station will also hear designations corresponding to the station of issue; when these documents are turned into the accounting department they can readily be sorted, distributed and tabulated by the desv iouslydescribed.
Special designating records can' also be 55 made from original data in. accordance with i natin means on the documents as premy invention by arranging the designating means described as shown in Fig. 4.
I am aware that prior to my invention special records for sorting, distributing and ance with a record representing digits ofthe numeral system formed by electrical conducting and insulating portions disposed on the surface of the domunent.
3. A document adapted to be electro-mechzmically segregated, sorted and tabulated in accordance with a record representing characters formed by electrical conducting and insulating portions disposed on the surface of the document. I
4. A document adapted to be electrically sorted and having a plurality of conductive identifying means displayed thereon at. predetermined distances apart.

A record document for statistical purposes, consisting of a body provided with a surface of insulatingmaterial, and having identifying means on said surface in the form of spots or portions of electric conducting material applied as a coating to said insulated surface, whereby a pair of electrical terminals of opposed polarity caused toengage any one of said spots will close a circuit through said terminals adapted to operate a work member.

Record document means for statistical purposes, consisting of a plurality of sheets each provided with a surface of insulating material, and each having identifying means on said surface in the form of spots or= por tions of electric conducting material applied as a coating to said sheets in predetermined relati vel'y different locations, whereby 'a number of pairs of electrical terminals of opposed polarity caused to engage successively with said sheet spots will close a circuit through terminals to operate a compiling iucmber.

A record-document for statistical pur: poses, consisting of a body provided with a surface, portion and having identifying means on the said surface in the formof spots or portions applied asa coating to said surface,-one of said surface portions being of electrical-conducting material and the other surface portion being ofr-i nsulating material, whereby a set of pairs of electrical terminals of opposed polarity caused to engage said body will closea circuit through the terminals of one pair' at the conducting surface portion, while the other said surface portion will insulate the other pair -of terminals.
