PATENT OFFICE.
LEROY W. LA BORE, OF OSBORNE, KANSAS.
POST.
Application filed December 5, 1,923.
To all whom it may concern:
Be'it known that I, LEROY W. LA BORE, a citizen'of the United States, residing at Osborne, in the county of Osborne and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Posts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in anchors, posts, and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide means whereby the device can be readily inserted into the ground without the necessity of digging a hole.
Another object of the invention is to provide a reinforcement for the lower end of the device which also acts to strengthen the ground engaging part.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of a fence post constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view through such post.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a view of an anchor.
Figure 5 is a view of a tool for placing the devices in the ground.
As shown in these views, the post 1 and the anchor l are formed of angle iron with the lower end part flattened out and'twisted to provide a spiral 2 which will enter the ground when the post or anchor is rotated and thus provide means for readily placing the post or anchor in position without the necessity of digging a hole. A reinforcing Serial No. 678,737.
member 3 is riveted to the lower part of the post or anchor and this member has a point prevents this member from interfering with the entrance of the device into the ground. In order to facilitate the turning of the post and anchor I provide a tool, such as shown at 5, the central part of which is provided with the angle slots 6, the small one-being adapted to'receive a post and the large one an anchor. The post is provided with slots 7 for receiving the fence wires and the anchor is provided with holes 8 for permitting the same to be bolted to the upright or other object with which it is to be engaged.
As the device is made of angle iron it can be manufactured to sell at low cost and'by eliminating the digging of holes the devices can be easily and quickly placed in position in the ground.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A post formed of angle iron with its lower end flattened and bent into spiral shape to form an auger for entering the ground and a reinforcing piece fastened to the lower end of the post and having a point passing through the spiral, said reinforcing piece having its top part of the angle shape to engage the lower part of the angle-shaped post'with its pointed part contacting with the spiral at intervals.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
LEROY W. LA BORE.
