. and useful. Improvements in Attachments for Hair Clippers, of which the followin is a specification and which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
This invention relates to hair clippers or clipping shears and .more particularly to an attachment therefor.
@ne of the ohiec'ts of the invention is the provision oi an attachment for hair clippelis that constitutes a gage for clipping hair in various ways and to diferent lengths.
`@ther objects of the invention are the provision of an attachment for hair clippers that is cheap manufacture, eicieut in operation, to manipulate, readily attached and one. that is not iihely to loecome broken or get out of order.
Y @ther and further ohiects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description, taken in connect-ion with the accompanying drawings, in whichhair clippers showing the attachment in poslticn thereon;
Fig. 2 1s a rear elevation thereof, wlth parts in section;
Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof, withl parts in section; Y
Y Fig. 4 is a plan view of the attachment;
Fig. 5 is a side view thereof; Fig. 6 is a rear elevation; and Fig. 7 is a front elevation of said attachment.
On the drawingsA the reference character' 10 designates a pair of hair clippers or clipping shears comprising the upper late or jaw 11 to which the handle 12 is attac ed.; the -lower late or 'aw 13 provided with the forwar y exten serrations or teeth 14; the movable or reciprocating knife. or
plate 15 the forwardly extending serrations or teeth 16; and the handle 17 A Y for reciprocating the plate 15 ;-all ofk which tion.
are lof the usual or any well known construc- The teeth 14 and 16 arev adapted to cooperate in the usual manner for cutting hair.
In cutting-.1V or trimming hair it is desirable that the hair on certain portions of the head be cut or" clipped shorter than it is at aduall merge into .the other. gr y A suitable attachment 20 for accomplishg ing'these purposes has been provided and will now be described. v The attachment com prises a plate 2l the upper face 22 of which is constructed to conform to the lower face of the lower jaw or plate 13; The plate 2l is provided with guards or teeth 23 extending forwardly therefrom. The forward ends of the teeth or guards 23 are provided with upwardly extending projections 24 with whichthe ends of the teeth 1&4 engage when the attachment is in position thereon. VIn other words, the teeth or guards 23 are .in alinem nt with the teeth lt of the jaw 13 with which they are in contact. There is a guard for each outside tooth of the lower jaw of the clipper and there may be i Y ably mounting the attachment on the plate Fig. l is a. perspeetire view of a. pair of or jaw 13. lhs shown, a clamping strip 25' are bent outward to form attaching clips 26 and 27. The clip 26 is curved inwardly slightly more than the .clip 27, whereby the plate 21 may be attached by placing the curved 'end 26 Aover the side edgeofthe plate or j aw 13 and pressing the plate into engagement the lower face of said jaw. A slight movement 4forwardly of the plate 21'suices to position the same on thejaw 13.
The teeth or guards 23 decrease in thickness towardtheirl forward ends.,A Preferably, though not neeearil the plate 21 is curved upwardly, at its orward end as shown at 28 in Fig. 5.' Thev curve is a. gradual one, thus enabling the .operator to more easily rock 'the clippers on the lcurved enga g surface to graduate the length to whic the hair. is cut than with the 'present type of clippers ha a beveledinstead of a curved vlower sur ace. The teeth or guards 23 of the'plate 21 are of gradually ecreasing'thickness from the` omter; toward each side. By this arrangement, the barl head and hy rocking the clip ers longitudilonger guards enter the hair rst and tend f nally the hair may he clippe to the desired length. The curvedsurface enables the op erator to more easily rock the clippers andV hold the same in the proper position to cut hair to the desired length, than with clippers of the present construction wherein the lower surface of the teeth is heveled instead of curved.
rllhe teeth or guards ofthe plate 2l are also of decreasing length from ythe middle toward each side. By this arrangement the to feed the hair into the shorter guards. This is especially advantageous when moving the clippers transversely to the direction in which the hair extends as when moving the clippers across the base of the head adjacent to the neck..
' By making the outer teeth of the guard thin, a single pair of clippers may, in this manner, be manipulated to serve the pur pose of a number of clippers that are at present necessary to clip hair short, medium and long.
-When the attachment 21 is in position on the clippers the same may be considered as forming a part thereof, and when attached to the closest cutting t pe of clippers the latter may be employe to take the place of two or three extra clippers for cutting hair to diderent lengths, thereby eliminating the necessity of a harher possessing more than one pair of clippers.
llt is thought from the foregoing taken in connection with the accompanying drawings that the construction and operation of my device will be apparent te those skilled in the art, and that various changes in size, shape, proportion and details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
.with teeth extending forwar fof decreasing thickness toward their for- I claim as my invention:
1; In an attachment of the class decribed, a guard provided with teeth extending forwardly therefrom, means for detachably connecting said guard to a clipper head, said teeth being of progressivel decreasing thickness and len h from t e center to# ward each side thereof.
2. An attachment for hair clippers, comprising a plate curved longitudinally at its forward end and teeth secured thereto and extending forwardly therefrom, said teeth being of increasing thickness from the longitudinal center to one side,and means for detachably connecting said attachment to a cutter head.
3. An attachment foihair clippers com# prising a flat plate havin its under surface curved upwardly at its forward end,
teeth at the forward end of said plate, said teeth being of unequal length from the longitudinal center toward one side.
4. A guard for hair clipars provided y therefrom,
ward ends, and of decreasing length from the longitudinal center toA one side thereof, and means for detachablyonnecting said attachment to a cutter head.
5. An' attachment for hair clippers, comprising a body portion provided with teeth extending forwardly therefrom and having their lower surfaces curved both longitudinally 'and' transversely, and means for detachably connecting said attachment to a hair clipper. 6. An attachment for hair clippers comprising a plate provided with forwardly extending teeth, said teeth decreasing in thickness toward the front ends thereof, and decreasing in thickness from; the middle tof ward each side of the plate, and a clip for holding said attachment onto the lower plate of the hair cli pers.
7. An attac ment for hair clippers comprising a, plate having forwardly extending teeth or guards, the lower surface of said teeth being curved both longitudinally of and transversely to said plate, a retainer member secured to said plate and having its ends bent upwardto form retainin cli s.
