M. L. COGSHALL TOY BLOCK Filed Feb. 21, 1924 Patented "Mar. 31, 1925.
UNITED STATES HOBBY L. COGSHALL, OF DALHART, TEXAS.
TOY BLOCK.
Application filed February 21, 1924. Serial No. 694,304.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Monnr L. COGSHALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dalhart, in the county of Dallam and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Blocks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to toy blocks particularly intended for use of children for amusement and educational purposes.
An important object of the invention is to provide a toy block which is provided with attaching means and may be employed by children for constructing Various structures.
A further object of the invention is to provide building blocks of this character which may be secured together to form various word combinations.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will furnish a pleasing pastime for children and likewise instructive.
ther objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following description. v
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a top plan view showing a plurality of the blocks secured together,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of one form of the device, and p Figure 3 is a perspective View of another form of the device.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 generally denotes a block which may be constructed of wood or any, desired material and may be square, rectangular or any desired shape- On the upper face of the block I provide letters 6 which maybe of any size, color or shape'desirable and the number of letters comprisin the set would depend on the number of b ocks thereof, preferably comprising the entire alphabet.
For the purpose of rigidly securing the blodss together in numerous formations a cylindrical, extension bar 7 is formed on the sides of the blocks, the said bar 7 being .the blocks rigidly together.
Inuse, the blocks may be connected as. shown in Figure 1 and constructed to form numerous Word combinations. It is to be noted that a plurality of extension bars 7 may be tomned on diiierent sides of the blocks and alsonumcrous grooves adapted to' receive the bars, thus enabling the blocks to be secured to one another in numerous positions and readily permitting the user to construct numerous structures such as pyramids or the like.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as the preferred example of the same, and that various chan es as to the shape, siz and arrangement 0? parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention, or the scope of the subioined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. Toy blocks of the character described, comprising fiat sided bodieseach having a vertical groove formed in the side extending from the top or bottom flat side thereof to a point approximately midway of the body, and an extension bar formed on another side of the body for engaging in a groove of another block. 4
2. Toy blocks of the character described, comprising flat sided bodies each having a vertical groove formed in the side extending from thetop or bottom flat side thereof to a point approximately midway of the body, and an extension bar formed on another side of the body and extending from the top or bottom of the body opposite from which said groove extends, said bar adapted to engage in the groove of another block.
3. Toy blocks of the character described, comprising a plurality of flat sided bodies each having a vertical groove formed in the side extending from the top or bottom thereof to a point approximately midway of the body forming an abutment at said midway the block, contacting with the abutment point, and an extension bar formed on anformed at one end of the groove. 1 other side of said body extending from the -1n testimony; whereof, I have aflixed my 10 top or bottom opposite to that from which signature in t e presence of two witnesses.
6 said groove extends and terminatin at a MORRY L. COGSHALL.
point midway of the block, said bar a apted Witnesses: I to engage in the recess of another block with Tnoms F. Goonmcn, the end thereof which terminates midway of DEAN LY.
