Be it known that I, HARRY P. MATTHEWS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pocket Ash Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pocket ash cases, and has for its object toprovide a simple, practicable, inexpensive and neat device adapted to be carried in the pocket for receiving ashes and for holding matches.

The invention consists of a generally oblong case 2 which may be of semi-elliptical form in cross section so as to conveniently fit in a pocket. The case is provided with a self-opening, hingedly mounted bottom 3, the opening of which is controlled by a simple spring latch 4 or other device which may have a bottom 5 projecting through the front of the case.
The case is divided, preferably into a plurality of longitudinally extending pockets as by means of an inner partition 6 extending from top to bottom. The artition forms adjacent one longitudinal sic e of the case a match pocket 7, access to which is had through a small hole 8 in the top 9 of the case. One end of the top is provided with a hinged lid 10 normally closing down over the match hole 8.
Access is provided to the larger chamber 11 as by means of a door or leaf 12 in the front of the case, this leaf being provided with a seat 13 on its inner face so that when the leaf is exposed, as in Fig. 4c, a cigarette or cigar can be supported thereon while the.
case is resting, for instance, on a primary support, such as a table, etc. The ash cover 12 is adapted to be latched in closed position as by a latch similar to latch 4 and is released y pr ssure on a button 14:.

A combined'ash and match case including a box having an inner wall extending from end to end of the box, one end of the box forming a hinged closure to uncover both chambers in the box at one time to discharge contents thereof, the case having separate openings for the chambers, each opening having a spring lid and latch therefor.
2. A combined ash and match case including a box having an inner wall extending from end to end of the box and to one side of its axis, one end of the box forming a hinged closure to uncover both chambers in the box at one time to discharge contents thereof, the case having separate openings for .the chambers, each opening having a spring lid and latch therefor.
3. A combined ash and match case including a box having an inner wall extending from end to end of the box,'one end ofthe box forming a hinged closure to uncover both chambersin the box at one time to discharge contents thereof, the case having separate openings forthe chambers, each I opening having a spring lid and latch therefor.
4. A combined ash and match box case including a box having an inner wall extending from end to end to divide the case into an ash-receiving compartment and a match-receiving compartment, one end of the box forming a hinged closure to uncover both of said compartments at one time to discharge contents thereof, the other end of the case having'an opening into the matchreceiving compartment, a hinged spring closure and latch therefor, the ash-receiving compartment having an opening in one side and a hinged spring-closure and latch therefor, the last mentioned spring-closure com prising means formlng a seat for a cigar or cigarette when 1n open POSltlOIi.
