Description

Feb. 28, 1924; 1,484,887
G. HYATT IDENTIFICATION. DEVICE Filed Nov. 1922 MOTOR N0.
INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Feb. 26, 1924.,
GLENN EYATT, MIDVALE, UTAH.
IDENTIFICATION DEVICE.
Application filed November 27, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GLENN HYATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Midvale, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented new and useful Imrovements in Identification Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention contemplates the provision of an identification device, primarily intended for use on motor operated vehicles, and designed to contain indicia relative to the name of the owner of the vehicle, his address and the date of purchase, the device being designed similar to the tacks usually employed for securing the upholstering in position, so that its location on the car will be unknown to everyone except the owner.
lhe nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and where- 1n:
Figure l is a view in elevation of the device, forming the subject matter of the invention.
Figure 2 is a view of the indicia carrying member.
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view through the device showing the manner of maintaining the indicia carrying member positioned Within the head of the device.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 indicates the shank of a tack or the like, the
v head of which is indicated at 11, the tack in its entirety resembling the tacks usually employed for securing the upholstering of an automobile to the frame work thereof, so that when the device is used, its location on the vehicle will be unknown to everyone except the owner. The head 11 of the device is dish-shaped and is adapted to receive an indicia carrying member such as shown in Figure 2. This member may be of any suit- Serial No. 603,563.
able design and constructed from any suitable material, but is preferably constructed from paper and having a shape similar to the configurationof the numeral 8. The respective portions 12 of this member contain indicia relative to the name of the owner of the vehicle, his address, the date of purchase and any other suitable identification subject matter that may be desired. The portions 12 of the member are folded upon each other, and then positioned within the head 11 of the device, the shank 10 being passed through the member for this purpose as clearly illustrated.
In order to preserve the indicia carrying member from any detrimental effects of water or the like, it is completely covered by a rubber disk 14, through which the shank 10 is also passed, the disk fitting nicely within the head of the device as shown. The invention provides a very cheap and simple means for providing the owner of automobiles of a way of identifying their machines whenever he may be called upon to do so, such as for instance, identifying a stolen vehicle.
While it is believed that from the foregoing description, the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What I claim is 1. An identification device of the character described comprising a headed shank, the head being substantially dish-shaped, an indicia carrying member adapted to be penetrated by said shank and positioned within the head, and a disk of water proof material receiving said shank and also associated with the head to cover the indicia carrying member for the purpose specified.
2. An identification device of the character described comprising a headed shank, an indicia carrying member including connected disk like portions adapted to be folded one upon the other, and said portions having meme? openings coinciding when said portions are confronting faces thereof, and said member folded to receive the shank of said element being adapted to be penetrated by said shank 10 for the purpose specified. and lying against the head thereof, and a 3. An identification device of the character disk of Water proof material arranged on 5 described comprising a headed shank, an insaid shank and also arranged on said head to dicia carrying member including two disk cover the indicia carrying member. like portions adapted to be folded one upon In testimony whereof I afiix my signature. the other and having indicia provided on the GLENN HYATT.
