" IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDERS.
Specification forming part of Leiters Patent No. 145,193, datrd March 3,1874; applicaticr tiled February 7, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, WILLIAM DUNBAR, of Jersey City Heights, in the county of Hudson and State ot' N ew Jersey, have invented anew and valuable Improvement in Suspenders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings,making a part otl this speciiication, and to the letters and iigures of reference marked thereon.

This invention relates to a new and useful improvement on waistband attachments for childrens pants. It consists in the application of pockets or cases to elastic straps, which are `stitched to the inner side of the back ot' the pants, for the purpose of keeping` said straps in place and protecting them from contact with the body or under clothing, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings7 A designates a pair of pants designed for a child, and B B B represent three straps or Suspenders secured to the inner side ot the back of the pants, and respectively composed of a leather button-hole tag, a, and an elastic strap, b, firmly stitched together, and intended to serve as means for attaching' the pants to the waistband ot' a jacket. Before stitching the straps B to the pants, I stitch to the inside thereof, at snita- 4 ble points, strong stay-pieces c. I then inclose the elastic lportions ot' the straps in strong pieces of cloth of a suitable kind, and after lapping in the edges I stitch the whole irml y to the pants over the stays c, thereby inclosing the elastic portions ot' the straps in pockets C, as shownin the drawings. These pockets C will keep the leather portions of the straps in their proper places, and allow the pants to lie smoothly about the waist and backof the child.
I am aware that elastic suspender-straps permanently secured to the inner side of panta loons is not new; and therefore I do not claim suoli invention, broadly; but
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The suspender-straps B, when inclosed in pockets C and stitched to the pants at c, substantially as set forth.
