v K. BARTH Y SELF' DIS CHARGING WAGON Filed April 26, 1921 Patented Nov. 210, 1923.
KARL BARTH, OF ESSEN, GERIVIANY, ASSIGNOB TQ FRIED. KRUPP AKTIENGESELL- scHAr'r, or EssENJoN-rnE-auna, GERMANY. Y
l SELF-DISCHARGING WAGON.
Application filed April 26, 1921. Serial No. 464,690.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, KARL BARTH, residing at Essen, Germany, a citizen of the German lepu'blic, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Self-Discharging IVe-gens (for which I tiled an application in Germany on February 8, 1916), of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a double sided self-discharging wagon, the bottom 0f which, when the wagon is ready to be loaded, is flat and in which the supporting of the bottom and its guiding when passing over from the loading to the discharging position and vice versa is carriedY out in a particularly advantageous manner.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which show diagrammatically one embodiment of the subject matter of the invention applied to a self-discharging wagon.
Fig. l is a transverse sectional view showing the dumping doors intheir operative position. Y
Fig. 2 is a view similar to that shown in Fig. 1 but with the dump-ing doors shown in the position they assume in the discharging operation.
The body A of the self-discharging wagon has iXed side walls B. 'The bottom consists of two doors C and C1 which are connected to each other by hinges c2 in the central longitudinal plane of the body of the wagon and when in the loading position (denoted byI) form a horizontal plane and when in the discharging position (denoted by II) form a saddle. Each of these doors C and G1 is pivotally connected by swinging supports D and E respectively Vto the underframe F of the wagon. There is also attached to the door C at a pivot ypoint c3 a connecting rod G, which is pivotally connected at its other end to the underframe F by means of a pin g1 rigidly connected to it. The connecting rod G lies inside the swinging supports D and E. For the operation of the bottom, which is only necessary when it is returned from position II to position I, any kind of well known arrangement (not shown) may be provided, which may be formed for example by a hand lever keyed on the pin g1 or by a gearing connected at the point 02 and provided with a locking device which can be thrown out or operation mechanism and serves to and C1 securely in the by the operatin hold the doors loading position.
W'hen the wagon is to be discharged, the
arrangement for operating the bottom is set in action, whereby the locking device is thrown out or' operation. When this takes place the doors G and G1 in consequence of the pivotal connection with each other and with the underframe F are brought by the connecting rod G and .the action of the weight oi' the load automatically into the discharging position denoted by II. The arrangement and the length of the connecting rod G is such that when the discharging movement takes place, the hinges 02 are moved vertically upwards, so that a uniform discharge takes place on both sides and the uniformity of the load on both Sides ot the undertrame is maintained.
I claim- 1. In a'self-dumping vehicle comprising a receptacle withA a plurality of hingedly connected bottom-forming members and a supporting under frame for' said receptacle, a supporting link for each bottom-forming member, said supporting link being pivotally attached tosaid member and to said frame, and a transverse guide link pivotally connected to one of said bottom-forming members and to said frame and adapted to guide the hinged edges of said bottomforming members in a substantially vertical line.
2. Ina self-dumping vehicle comprising a receptacle with a plurality of hingedly connected bottom-forming members and a supporting'under frame for-said receptacle, a supporting link for each 'bottom-forming member, said supportinglink being pivotally attached to said member at a point nearer its hinged edge than Aits outer edge, and to said frame, and a transverse guide link pivotally connected to one of said bottom-forming members and to said frame and adapted to .guide the hinged edges of Said bottom-forming members in a substantially vertical line.
3. In a self-dumping vehicle, comprising a receptacle Awith a plurality of hingedly connected bottom-forming members and a supporting under frame for said receptacle,
a supporting link for each bottom forming.
member, said supporting link being pivotally attached to said member and to said adapted to guide the hinged edges of said frame, whereby on said bottom-forming bottom-forming members in a substantially men'l'bers assuming the dumping positiop Vertical line. 10 said links are adapted to swing inwardly The 'foregoingspecification signed at Es- 5 past the Vertical, and a transverse guide link sen, Germany7 this 25th day of February,
pivotally connected to one of said bottom 1921. e forming members and to said frame and e KARL BARTH.
