UNITED-STATES PATENT Orrrcn.
DAVID W. DE FOREST, OF PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA, ASSIGNOR OF TWO- THIRDS HIS RIGHT TO SIDNEY S. NORTON AND FRANK P. NORTON,
OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT lN COLLAR AND CUFF DRIERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,838, dated N ovember 25, 1873 application filed October 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID W. DE FoREsT, of Petersburg, in the coinity of Dinwiddie and State of Virginia, have invented a new and Improved Collar and Cuff Drier; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
Figure l is a front view of my improved collar and cufi drier. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
Like'letters in both figures of the drawings indicate like parts.
The object of this invention is'to provide convenient means for drying collars, cuifs, and other similar articles. Hitherto each article has been secured to the line by common pins or clothes-pins. This invention consists of a zigzag wire, arranged so that its ends can be sprung in and out of hooks on the ends of a bar, which is suspended by a hook or hooks on a line or other suitable support, and the collars or other articles are slipped over the wire through the button-holes, and kept apart at proper' intervals for drying.
A represents a supporting-bar; B, the zigzag wire; O O, the hooks attached to the ends of the bar; and D, a holder, consisting of a wire extending through the center of the bar, and fastened to the center of wire B and the upper end bent to form a hook to suspend the drier to a line or other support. All of the wires and hooks are made of galvanized wire to avoid rusting.
To place the articles on the drier, the ends of the wire are sprung back in the hooks to prevent the articles from, blowing 0E, and the drier is suspended from a line.
Instead of the bar A a wire may be used, the ends of which can be bent to form the hooks O G, and the-wire-holder fastened around the center and around the zigzag wire, thus forming a drier wholly of wire; but I prefer the bar, because of its weight, which holds the drier more steadily when suspended in the open air.
WVhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- A collar or cuff drier, consisting of a bar having a zigzag-shaped wire for holding the collars or cuffs, in combination with a hook at each end of the bar, and a holder for suspend ing the drier from a line, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of September, 1873.
DAVID WVM. DE FOREST.
