Be it known that we, ERASTUs M. MAX- uf'nLL and Inn K, HnAnN, citizens of the United States, residing at Cardinal` inthe county or Mathews and IState of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in- Sees'aws; and we do ,hereby declare the :following to be a i'ull, clear, and exact description ot the invention, such as will enable 'others skilled in the art to whichl it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to see-saws or teeter devices `'for children, and aimsto provide a novel and improved device of that character for the amusement, .exercise and enjoyment of children.`
It is the object of the inventio-n to provide a see-saw or teeter device having'novel'and improved actuating mechanism orbperation by the occupantsto efficiently-operate or rock the teeter member and to add enjoyment to the device when in operation.
With the lforegoing and other objects in View, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, they invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be made Within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device with the teeter member in horizontal position.

Rocking or oscillating members 15 are mounted on the bar 1Q near the ends thereof, and, as shown, are cut to represent horses or other animals, which the occupants can sit astride. Transverse foot rests 25 extend through the plates 16 -below the bars 10, on which the feet of the occupants seated on the members 15 can be placed, and transverse handle bars 26 extend through the member 15 labove the bar 10 to be grasped by the hands, so that said members can bel -given a rocking movement relatively tothe bar 10 by the persons seated on said members 15. The Jfoot rests 25 may serve as the pivots for the links 24 between the plates 16, as shown, and the occupant of each member 15 by placinglvhis'v y or her foot on the foot piece 25 and grasping the handle bar 26 can exert manual power, in addition to the swaying movement of the body, to rock the bar'l() by the action of the lever 20k and gear segments. The long arm of the lever 20 to which the links 24 are connected, can be ofany suitable length, so as to increase the leverage obtained, and buffer springs 27 are supported on-the bars 10 underneath each rocker 17 at the opposite sides of the `fulcrum lug 18,'to cushion the members 15 at thelimits ofthe rocking movement on the bar 10, and yto createa rebound action, to assist in oscillating the device.
In the modiiied form shown in- Fig. 5, the construction is the same, with some changes as presently described. Instead of using the oscillatory members 16 to be 4straddled by the occupants for riding same, levers 15 are rovided, the same extending across the bar 10 and being ulcrumed thereto, as at 18',
what is claimed as new is and the links 24C are connected to the lower arms of the levers 15. The lower and upper arms of said levers have the foot pieces 25 and handle bars 26', respectively, and seats 29 for the occupants are secured on the end portions of the bar 10 beyond the levers 15. The persons seated on the seats 29 can place their feet on the foot pieces 25 and grasp the handle bars 26 whereby to oscillate the levers lrelatively 'to the bar 10, for rocking said bar. A block 28 secured within-the upper projecting end of the standard 12 has buffer springs 27 for the contactl of the opposite arms of the bar 10 invits limits of movement, to cushion said bar 10 and create a rebound action for oscillating the device.
Having thus described the invention,
1. A device of the character described comprising a standard, a bar ulcrumed to the standard for oscillation about an axis, a member alsovfnlcrumed to the standard for oscillation about another axis, said member and bar having gear segments meshing with one another for oscillating said bar when said member is oscillated, and operating means carried by the bar connected to said member. f
2. A device of the character described comprising a standard, a bar ulcrumed to the standard for oscillation about an axis, a movable member carried by the standard. a gear connection between said member and bar for transmitting the oscillatory motion to said bar by the movement ol said member, and operating means carried by the bar connected to said member.
3. A device of the character described comprising a standard, a bar ulcrumed to the standard for movement about an axis. members carried by the bar on which the occupants can be seat-ed astride said mem` bers, each of said members having side plates extending across the opposite sides of said bar and an intermediate portion having a fulcrum seated on said bar, and operatingl means connected to said members for moving said bar by the oscillation oi said members. p n
